Yeah, I I know I'm crazy. But, my animals love me, so I honestly don't care about anything else.

Don't call me "hun", please. I'm not a child and you are not my superior.

I can tell you love your animals. I was just expressing my opinion.

Well, you don't need to criticize my opinion then. And I'm not a child either, thank ya very much.

lol, did I ever tell you that you were a child? I said you were being childish earlier. There's a difference.
I really don't like to fight. Can we just drop it?

If I were to up and die Lucky would probably be euthed along with me and I can't imagine my partner or family putting up with Juniper for ANY amount of time.
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe

Well, that's the route you're choosing to take. It's not the route I'm choosing to take. I'm going to have children. Eventually. With the right person. I will also take on any nieces or nephews who need a place to call home. I will break the cycle (yes, quite a bit of what I've been through my parents have been through) by being the bigger person. By loving them with all my heart and putting them first no matter what and doing my best to protect them.

FuzzyThePunkCat wrote:Until you've actually been saved by animals ough, I wouldn't expect you to understand. I am not going to go into details there though, because I don't feel like being labeled an attention seeker.

Lol, I know what it's like to be saved by animals. My cat and Clemmy saved me at separate times. There were days the only reason I got up in the morning is because I'm the only one who feeds the cats or because Clemmy needed her walk. I am extremely devoted to it. But if it came down to it and it was in my cat's best interest to give him up, I would. I don't have anyone else to take him because he's 'annoying' and he bites everyone else over the slightest provocation. Not everyone can have perfect, friendly pets that ERMEGAWD everyone just /loves/ like you. So don't tell people you barely know they don't understand because you don't know Bliss. (I'm not saying Bliss has or hasn't. I'm just saying you don't know.)
"Only ignorance! Only ignorance! How can you talk about only ignorance? Don't you know that it is the worst thing in the world, next to wickedness? - and which does the most mischief, heaven only knows. If people can say 'Oh! I did not know, I did not mean any harm,' they think it is all right."

Just going to briefly pop my head into this debate....

I'm in the middle. I KNOW that were something to happen to me, I have relatives that would take my dogs. Off the top of my head, I can think of 5 relatives who would take them in a heartbeat. I think it highly unlikely that circumstances could change for all of us. I also know they would be happy to take them in, can afford it, and would care for them well. We have previously taken in 2 dogs for relatives who could not keep them.
I also have friends, 3 of which I know would take them.
So, I can be 99% certain someone would take them. And, if push really comes to shove, I would put them down before going to a shelter.

But then as a family, we are very doggy, ALL of my relations I can think of have at least one dog.

It's like being surprised that a longhaired dog would make more longhaired dogs. Just a little bit of "duh???" I suppose. I've seen a lot of matted doodles in my area and every since one of their owners looks at me like I've grown two heads when I mention regular grooming. Eventually these dogs are taken to a groomers and they've got sores and maggots under the mats. I had one lady start laughing about how she took her one labradoodle in to be groomed for the first time in 5 years and they took off a couple pounds of mats, dirt, and maggots. I told her I felt bad for the dog.

People in my area (and I've heard, all over really) get doodles very commonly for a "non-shedding" dog. They either get a dog that still sheds, or a dog that is non-shedding but must be groomed regularly. Then they don't groom their dog, so it mats.

TBH, I really don't understand what a doodle can do that a poodle can't.

Late response, but I think a lot of people who buy doodles are the kind of people who aren't responsible enough to handle a smart dog. People always seem to think smart is good, and it is, but of course that means the dog has to be entertained a lot more or it can cause trouble. That being said, the kind of people who tend to go out and buy a doodle from one of those mixed breed breeders without doing all the research aren't exactly the pinnacle of responsible dog ownership anyway. They should probably just do some research about dog care and what breeds might be good for their lifestyle and then adopt a dog if they're not willing to go through everything needed to find a responsible breeder.

That's true. With ours, we bought because we thought it seemed a nice cross - the designer part was just coincidental. My uncle also has a Labrador x poodle, which again he bought as he liked the cross. She is an amazing dog.

I do think far to many people buy them because if the designer label and price tag, and are not aware they will need the same level of care.

One thing, ours is a lovely dog - but smart is in no way a word I would use to describe her. I get that is just her though, and most probably are smart.

Same here! If any of my relatives, who ALL have dogs, even thought of the possibility of one of my animals going to a shelter, they'd be completely heartbroken and would find a way to take them. They can't stand to see their acquaintances dogs go to shelters and have taken dogs for them before, so no doubt they'd take mine if needed.

My family wouldn't be able to handle and work with Dixie's issues if something were to happen to me. But I think it would be very unfair to put down a healthy, active dog without letting her have a chance at continuing to live and enjoy life with someone else who could care for her properly and give her what she needs to stay happy and thrive.
