What is everyone's opinion on cropping ears and docking tails? Particularly cropping ears on APBTs and AmStaffs?
I think it looks nice when done correctly, not when they're just cut right off x.x

I generally like the look on traditionally cropped/docked dogs. However, I feel that unless you actually go through a GOOD cropper theres no reason to get it done. Its done for cosmetic purposes so it had better look perfect. Cropping has no long term side effects. Docking, if botched, can lead to life ling pain; thats why its important to get it done at the right age and go to a person who know's what they're doing.

I like longer crops on bully type dogs.. Like this: Image
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe

I am strongly against both to all breeds. Just leave the poor dog how it is.

I don't really support either to be honest, I just can't wrap my head around putting an animal though stress or discomfort purely for looks.

I will say that crops look good on some dogs (There's really no breeds so far I think docking looks good on), but I would never do it to my own animals or encourage it.

That said I by no means dislike or look down upon someone for choosing to do so.

Found an older video I thought I'd share, it's a Schutzhund video but it features a lot of different breeds you don't typically see in the sport. Not in the US anyway :)

Yup, all of this. However, I would prefer a 100% natural dog.

That's the same kind of ears I like on a bully.

I am not a huge fan of docked tails. Only on fluffy dogs it looks ok to me.

Charles and Alli Trippy posted a video of Marley and Chico playing and I look in the comments and I literally want to cry from the a,out of comments saying Marley was being "dominant" because she was kind if instigating and controlling the play. I can't even comment back because my channel isn't linked to google+ and I can't link it from my iPad *facepalm*
Anyway, I am so glad Marley and Chico were playing, that's a great sign!

Oh how cool, nice to see breeds other than GSDs, Bella also enjoyed watching it. This reminds me, when Bella was a puppy we went to see a sorta Schutzhund presentation (Not sure what it's really called) at a dog fair. Afterward me and my mother joked with the man about getting Bella into Schutzhund, that would be quite funny to see.

@MalfoyQueen: How long do Akita Inus generally live for? They're one of the longer lived big breeds, I think? Also, one of the three bites Lolita has landed on people happened because I was a stupid kid allowed to walk a fear aggressive dog and I wasn't paying attention :'D

@Fuzzy: While there are some breeds I like cropping on (APBTs and AmStaffs being one of them), I dislike the idea of putting the dog through unnecessary surgery. However, if I were to go to a breeder that requires all their puppies to be cropped, I won't back out of getting one from them if they're a great breeder otherwise. Same goes for docking in that I consider it largely unnecessary and purely cosmetic for most, if not all, dogs.

@Serenade: Hey, if a frigging chihuahua can do Schutzhund, so can Bella!

Do you own a dog?: Yes, two :)
Favorite dog breed?: Hm, Golden Retriever, Am. Staffie or mutt
Tell us about your dog(s), if you have any!: Tsuki is a golden, she just turned three. She's the light of my life, my baby. I love her to death. We do 4H together. She's very lethargic and always has been, never really one to get up and do and be hyper. The only thing she gets hyped up for is agility! She's an obedience trained dog and is number one in the state in 4H for her level. She's pretty shy when we're not at home and likes to stick close to me. She doesn't bite or growl, except sometimes at other dogs (growling, not biting). She doesn't like strange men with baseball hats on. She's not perfect, but she sure is my definition of it.
Kodie is a 16 year old golden x Labrador. She has pretty bad arthritis and is completely deaf. She still enjoys life, however. She adores going to the beach and manages to keep up with Tsuki. She's best friends with everyone she meets.

They're both gorgeous!

Thank you much! I'll dig around to try and find the name of her breeder, I don't have the name off the top of my head. She doesn't have a kennel, only owns two dogs. Some people are hesitant about where she came from, but I have complete confidence in her breeder. She's only had one health problem in her life, and it's an anal gland issue. The vet says it isn't hereditary. She's registered and the breeder provided complete health certificates for both parents, and I got to meet both. The breeder was breeding her dogs to get herself a new agility dog, I trust that she wouldn't irresponsibly breed if she was going to keep a puppy
I'll see what my mom and I can find...my dad moved some things around...where are those darn files??
I strive to be

Different

Hehe my favorite color is blue

I agree. I find it unnecessary, and I
honestly don't like how it looks.
On any breed. I don't agree with
tail docking, either. I like my dogs
completely natural. Granted, if there
was a dog that had cropped ears or
a docked tail in a shelter, I wouldn't
hesitate to adopt it. I just wouldn't
*choose* to crop their ears or dock their
tail.
