Hey everyone! Ita veen a real long time since I posted here, and I have a question, I am a dressage equestrian, and have a rather slow horse. So I use the whip on her, she is a PRE, around 17 years old, and she has a lovely movement in her legs if you can keep her forward. Now I had a discussion with my trainer, I personally use my whip behind my leg, the place where I tell her to move, and he said I need to use it on her but, now where do you guys use your whip? An if you don't use it, why not? ^.^
It is clear that I must find my other half. But is it a he or a she? What does this person look like? Identical to me? Or somehow complementary? Does my other half have what I don't? Did he get the looks? The luck? The love? Were we really separated forceably or did he just run off with the good stuff? Or did I? Will this person embarrass me? Can two people actually become one again?

Quick question. Is describing a horse as "oatmeal gray" correct? I didnt thinkn it was a real colour but idk.

Horse (s) in question id normally just describe as (white) grey (ie not a dark grey or dappled)
Thanks!

Ive had a few broken bones.. except for the first one (where i was terrified and it took me 4 or 5 months to get the courage to ride again) i rode, despite being injured.. the broken heel bone/tendon/ligament damage was the worst and took having someone give me a boost on the "wrong" side in order to mount because I couldnt physically do it

Wow, questions! I know I posted yesterday but I figured I would respond to as many of these as possible!

@Lane Frost </3
Never anything serious to keep me out of riding. The worst accident I had was last Valentine's day when I rolled off the side of a horse and I remember is hitting my head on the ground, bouncing and then finally settling. I broke my helmet because of that fall, but my helmet kept me safe (though I was concerned about a concussion for a while). I know there can be much more serious incidents, but I've been very lucky not have anything worse than that happen due to riding. Why do you ask?

@inkyy
That's not really a real color, but describing that in terms of something else is sometimes more useful than trying to figure out the color. Is the color grey with brown in it, or are there brown spots, or is it just plain grey? If you're calling a horse a white grey, that's technically correct, because it's a grey horse whose coat has a white appearance.

@Soul of Winter
Wow, that's awesome! Let us know how it goes!

Depending on how big your field is and how you do your XC rides, you may need a XC vest, especially if you're not going one by one. If you're riding a horse out there for the first time, then let them look around a bit, and walk around the perimeter at least once. If there are any trails or anything like that, then let your mount investigate there as well. Take plenty of time to warm up (especially individually) and try and work all the way around the field, but especially in areas that you'll be jumping in. Bring some water, leave it with your trainer or somewhere that's easily accessible on horseback, make sure your stirrups are at a good length (considering you'll probably spend a lot of time in a half seat or jumping) and do a girth check after you mount. Overall, keep your horse consistent in their pace, spend time warming up and looking around, and enjoy the ride!

@My riding
Of course I didn't expect anything exciting to happen, so everything happened.

I rode Gabby, and she was awesome. We had the best ride out of all of the hacks in the past few months, which was great.

I helped take in the horses from the show, they trailered in right before I was going to leave so I got roped into helping everyone back inside, including some who were very excited to be home and rushed to their stalls a little bit.

And finally, if I heard M correctly, she'll start paying me for teaching! I hope I heard her correctly because if so, my job hunt is over and I won't have to sacrifice barn time for a job outside of the barn. c:

I ask cause my mare slipped and fell on my leg last night. I feel a little alone because all we were told is it could be a sprain. I love riding its my life and i just wanna be back in the saddle again

I've only ever been given a whip once, but I didn't use it for fear of hurting the horse. People at my stables don't use whips (there's a whole supply of whips, but they're all unused and dusty). However, I may need to use a whip on the older plods that we have, just to keep them moving forward. As for "where" it depends on what you're asking. For me, I'd use it behind my leg, just to wake the horse up.

Taz and Harry are the most lazy horses *probably* on the planet. It took a group of seven riders and lots of aids to get him into a trot, because no one wanted to use a whip. I had a thing against whips for ages, but I've changed my mind and decided that whips are useful for just getting the horse to listen. Taz has become immune to all aids (he's a children pony, so he has five year olds jabbing him with huge kicks on a daily basis) and I've just decided that getting him moving with a whip will help getting working more enthusiastically. I'd have to be more careful with Harry, since he can be sensitive, but it'd only be a small tap, or even just letting the whip touch his side gently. Nothing drastic.

Hope it goes okay! :D

Behind the leg or on the butt(or if they are squirming or being stupid sometime I use it on the shoulder to correct them). With short crop it's easier to use behind leg, while with whip it's easier to use on the butt. I also think when used on the butt it's more of a signal for the horse to engage the hind little more, than it would if I'd just use it behind the leg.

Offically no, it's not a real color. And personally I've never come across such description.

I've had one possible mild consussion once. And then another time my horse too off on a trail while I was just about to get off, I ended up hitting large fallen tree brach chin first(I think I was basically laying on my back in the saddle when my horse run) and needed 5 stitches to my chin. First case I was only away from the saddle few days. But the next case I think week or two, due the stitches, which I was not supposed to get dirty. Broken collarbone, from non-riding related accident, how ever kept me from the saddle almost 2 months I think.
Can we pretend that the airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?

I have had a few close calls, but my worst is when I fell of my gelding and I landed on my knee so hard that the socket and ball hit each other with enough force to damage the inside of my socket and my doctor said that when I am older I am most likely going to need a knee replacement rather young because my knee will always be trouble..They have told me not to ride anymore because I will feel nothing by pain in my knee but I refuse to stop. my other bad injury was when I was getting ready for a show and I was camping at the show so I tried jumping a small fence(just me and my feet) and fell during the landing and got a rock stuck in my elbow..that thing was in there for a few months before we got around to replacing it.

[list]Hi, I'm going to try and post here more often, partially just as a way of tracking my progress, and would really appreciate constructive criticism on my riding? I'm going to try and video each time I can get to an arena to school. I'm pretty sure I know what I need to work on, but I'd really appreciate any and all comments? :3

As a little background, he used to lean terribly, and was very heavy in the hand, and on his forehand. While I've stopped the leaning, and he's much lighter in hand, it doesn't look very good at the moment as you can see, he's fairly unsteady in the contact. We're at the worse-before-it-gets-better stage, if you know what I mean.

here's the link - thank you.

In other news, on Saturday we went for a gallop;
