Tý fooling around in round pen first.12345We put him in the round pen first to see if he'd respect the fences(I knew he would, but the person who I was lunging with thought it was best to do that first).
I got surprisingly few pictures taken while lunging him, blaming it on the fact I needed to make him move unlike last time when I could just stand and take pictures(and I think the person who lunged him last time did much better job at lunging than we did this time). : P Good news he now has little more 'bounce'/springs to his trot, but on other hand I think the strides aren't that long/airy anymore. He also showed only very little lateral movements, so that was slight shame. In the end when he started to get bit more tired he did switch to pace once, so that was nice, and then occasionally when doing transitions he showed hints of tolt. So over all I think his trot and gallop might be enough, but on the same time I liked better the way he moved last year. Though I'm happy with the way he carries himself and the way he generally moves. It's just that I'm not 100% sure the moves are enough for good evaluation as a 3 year old. If he shows tolt and pace, then he doesn't have to move perfect, but if not...
Conformation vise, he's biggest flaw is his neck. It's short. It doesn't look too bad when he just stands nice and tall, but when he moves he pulls it real short and it's really obvious and doesn't match the rest of his body(really, block out neck+head from the pic and you'll see what I mean). His head is also kinda small, but is really wide from the side view around the nose. Aaand his buddies have been 'nice' and chewed off some of his mane shorter. XP
So I'm still pondering about the breeding show. Just checked the entry list and there are some interesting and quite likely very nice looking youngsters coming, so I don't think we'd be competing for the best young horse title this year by long shot. >_< Unless of course most pull out from the show, like last year in 2 year old class. The timing of the show also sucks and all the trailering hassle just doesn't appeal to me so much at the moment(the person I rented the trailer from last time no longer has that 1,5 horse trailer)
