So many exciting updates!
@Lessons
Lessons have been going really well lately! I've been riding Senator every week for quite some time now and he and I get along very well! We've had a bit of a bigger group in the past couple weeks with H joining the lesson with Ocho, a new trainer, A, with Gabby or Aria, and sometimes another rider just happens to be schooling at the same time and M invites them to join in.
@Showing
2 weeks from today, I will have completed my first schooling show with my new stable! I'm very excited, I have a friend coming to take pictures and hang out with on the day of the show. M checked with Senator's owner and he's fine with me riding him in the show. I think we're doing a novice walk/trot/canter, and 2 2ft novice courses. Not sure if we're being judged on equitation/hunters/jumpers, but I'm guessing probably equitation.
@Exercising
Exercising horses has been great! I rode Gabby yesterday, and with all the time and energy A has put into her, she's definitely acting more like a jumper pony that I would ride. She picks up the canter within the corners without too much of a fuss (she still tosses her head a little) and she feels more adjustable in the canter. I asked her to collect a lot yesterday (due to the fact that the last time I rode her, she just took off) and she listened very well. I was very pleased with it. I've also ridden one schoolhorse, Patrick, who requires spurs but hates crops. His trot feels awful, you just keep your leg on the entire time and it feels very lethargic. His canter is a lot nicer, but apparently it's more difficult for other students to pick it up, so maybe I just have the right touch or something. I've also ridden Ocho, who listens very well and helped me out with learning how to collect a little more when cantering. He requires a small amount of pressure with his bit to help him canter, and I really got to work on collection before cantering. I also rode Callahan, whose trot is wonderful but gets very heavy in the forehand and will pull on you a LOT. He likes to go, too. I sat 2 beats to get on the right diagonal and he picked up the canter without any leg pressure. Callahan is a full body workout.
@Teaching
My lesson has been with me for an entire month, hooray! She's been great, and we've finally gotten our posting rhythm down, so I'll have to start thinking of more stuff to do with her until she moves on to another trot class (hopefully the one on Saturday that I help out with?? fingers crossed). I've already taught her two point, posting, walking, trotting, halting, circles, and two pointing over poles, but I'm sure I can come up with more, especially if she's not on Dottie, who's very responsive to being asked to trot.
@Anyone else
I don't currently see anything that I can really help out with, horse problem wise, but if I see anything, I'll be sure to respond.
