Only one difficult thing, whenever there is pressure on her backside, or too far down her back, she rears [or tries to, she can't get off the ground very well]. Does anyone know what could have caused it?

Get her lower spine and PELVIS looked at. We had the same problem with a fox trotter here and it turned out pretty bad ): She may only be able to do really light riding. Lets hope that isnt the case. For sure get a full check up done with a vet and chiro.
Also take what Kestrell said. Take into consideration all possibilities, but always rule pain out first.

Could have those hind legs positioned bit better, but either way I'm really hoping the front will grown bit more and he won't end up with the same kind of back as Heta. : P

I was wanting Tý pictures! He is looking mighty handsome in his winter woollies! I wouldn't worry too much about his front/back end! They are looking pretty good to me and he's only two. If he's anything like Reggie, still got a lot of growing to go and some really funky growth spurts! Glad to hear Heta is feeling better now that baby has moved into a better position!

@Kestrell; I'm in a similar position with my Tb gelding. He's got some injuries which prevent him from going any harder than what he already is and I was ready to step up. Its not fair to ask him for any more and it kills me to let him go, but I take peace in the fact that its the kindest thing to do. To keep going would be selfish, especially when I've got an opportunity for him to go to a friend's of mine where he can teach someone else in the ins and outs of horses. So its perfectly normal to feel sad and don't try to suppress that, but don't let that sadness take anything away from all the good memories you've had together :)

@Dravinara; I'd be checking for soreness too, especially around her Saco-illica/hips. That is not a normal response for pressure on her hind. Its possible she's got some ligament/tendon damage or even some arthritis somewhere which could be causing pain. This might be worth a vet visit.

~~~
The WB mare went really well on Sunday! Did not put a foot wrong even though there was stuff going on all over the place. Stood tied to the float all day too which was nice lol She was a little tense in the dressage to start with but relaxed towards the end, lowest mark was a 7 and even got a 9 at one point! Show jumping was nice, calm and clear which was excellent. She was a little unsure again, but all you had to do was add a little leg and she would pop straight over. So we finished up 5th for the day, which I can't complain about! So I'm going to buy her and she's coming down next weekend which is pretty exciting. But that means Donny is leaving the abasement this weekend which is kind of sad. I know he's going to an excellent home though and I've got the benefit of being able to go whenever as he is literally 10 minutes down the road.
>just a bit of an update to keep myself organised/ from drifting away again XD<
I've started to get over the loss of Q... I have him for the rest of the month so I've been using up all of the spare time I have left with the guy <3 I also have started to look for my next horse... and I'm leaning towards ownership this time instead of leasing, but my parents have the final say... That's really all the news I have for now... hopefully finding a suitable horse won't take too long.
Hey guys! I've been wanting to post but I just haven't.
While we were filling each other in about life on the Skype group, I mentioned that I was working with Sugar's stops because she was taking right off.
Welp, now putting that up in a post here, she's doing a lot better and standing still, but when she goes to go off before I want and I tightened up, she'll go sideways or backwards a step. I've just been nose bending for that and it seems to be working but I am having an issue with one certain place for stopping.
That place is what I assume is a roping chute. -looks like this- http://anvilranch.com/wp-content/upload ... 14-019.jpg
The top of ours is covered so we always set our waters there. Sugar used to go sideways when we stopped to get a drink, and she had stopped that (we walk all the way in, turn and walk up to the side of the chute and stop if that matters at all.) But lately, sugar either wants to turn right or left/walk off right away and she'll step with her hips away when I go to grab my water, she'll walk back up to the gate, turn back around, walk back and stop at the side of the chute again. She mostly turns her head towards the chute, walks back to the back panel, and turns. It seriously frustrates me and any advice would be helpful! Now note, this is different when from I'm just stopping somewhere in the arena, because I'm riding one handed really with no way to bring my other hand right into the picture for correction since I'm holding my water.
Work on pretending to grab your water - but dont, lean to grab it, touch the bottle of you need to to ensure you are fully doing what you do when you grab it - keep your outside leg firm and correct her (also make yourself aware - when you lean to get your water, could you be nudging her with your heel and so she thinks you are asking her to move?)
    so guys I need your expert grooming tips haha
    my lease horse's mane falls naturally to the left. It must of been pulled that way before and now it literally won't stay to the right
    I haven't pulled it and laid it yet, it's been too cold here so I'm waiting for a warmer day
    Those at my barn who have leased her in the past said that they had no luck with pulling and laying it
    any expert magical tips to help? haha
    her tail is also super fluffy and thick. it literally eats shavings. I hate having to brush her tail every day but I can't ride her with a tail full of shavings
    Would conditioning it help at all? I'm very timid with tails and like them long and thick, so I don't want to tamper with her beautiful tail. Can't wait until spring when it's warm enough to bathe !!
Hola. I haven't checked this thread in forever, but now I return! For thee mane, have you tried braiding it? Dont roll the braids or such, just do 8 or 9 to the right. When my barn got new ponies with crazy hair, that's how they dealt ith it. :)
UnicornDoingDressage wrote:Hey everyone! So 3 months ago, I rescued an adorable little OOTB named Smartie. It hasn't been easy, but now we can walk and halt under saddle. When I first got him, we couldn't even lead him from/to the field with out drugging him. He's coming along really nicely, and I am considering sending him off to be professionally trained as a hunter/jumper. However, I have a problem, Smartie has 3 extra teeth! Growing on the front/outside part of his gums. I called the vet don't worry, but man it looks painful. I might put him in a Dr. Cook's bitless bridle. He legit will chew ANYTHING he can reach. I mean, that's normal for a 4 yr old. But he does it to the extreme. He bites fingers, reins, halters, etc. I think removing the teeth might help this. But have any of you ever sent your horse away to be trained, what should I expect? I'm having difficulty with attaching a picture :lol:
(haven't looked at replies, just replying on account I own an 8 yo thoroughbred who chews)
If like you said the closest he came to racing was the starting line, you need to understand that from 18 months he was trained to race to run, he was trialed, accepted and put into racing, and i doubt the infomation you've been given is correct if he is a rescue. If he is that spooky, i'd say he's been raced a few times and may have witnessed a few accidents. He may also be a windsucker, which would also explain the chewing, not necessarily the fact he has extra teeth (which is odd...) if your going to get them removed, make sure you get a dentist who does NOT USE power tools as they can ruin a horses mouth in seconds (my mums anglo arabian was not allowed to have her teeth done for 2 years because of this) get someone with knowledge who doesn't use power tools. then give him a minimum of 6 months off of riding, give him love, do a bit of ground work with him every week, but put him on spell, if he's 4 he's only a baby, his brain has been pushed, and he is a Thoroughbred, you need to let him relax and be a horse, in the time of him being broken to racing and then actually racing, he's been stabled, that means he would likley windsuck or crib on the stalls and being a baby it will only tempt him more. Also take note, some horses ( not just Tb's ) have baby brain till they are about 8, some never grow out of it, my boy is 8 and he is still a pathetic baby brained tb and will always chew, put things in his mouth etc. take note he is only a baby at 4 years, and for a tb, he may as well be a 1 year old warmblood. get the teeth removed, and put him on a 6 month spell. see if you can borrow someone's horse to ride if your desperate to ride or want to keep your riding fitness up, also get lessons on another horse, he's green, he doesn't know the buttons, he doesn't know anything but gallop flat out, you need to put him in a round yard, give him ground work, get on get of get on get off. treat him like an unbroken horse. and as a person who's currenlty breaking in an arabian mare, have a look at John O'leary and Warwick Schiller, they will help you so much with bringing on a green horse, (within 6 months your green tb could be eventing and show jumping)
one more thing, when you catch him chewing, gently poke him or tap his nose or whatever, do not let him do it it will become a horrible habbit and if you have him tied to a float or next to your saddle, when you turn around, you will have a hole in your saddle or a float with marks in the paint.
Thanks for the tips for tips Lissa! I'll practice that.
My lease starts today! Oh my x'D I'm so excited. I'll be able to work Sugar a lot more.
EDIT AFTER LESSON-
I figured out the problem to this turning at the chute! What happens is, at the end of my lesson, I'll walk in, grab my water and let Sugar keep walking and turn to the gate then dismount. I'll have to stop a lot before hand and after hand of grabbing my water.
