Hey!! I'm back after a veeeery long break!!

I'm not sure if anyone remembers buuut... around April I said I had a horse coming for trial. Well.. I bought him!! Signed the papers a couple weeks ago and he is now registered in my name. :)

His name is Noah and he's my first horse!! :'D He's a 14 year old 16 hh Appendix. We are currently doing dressage together buuut... I was told he has a pretty cute jump.. so we'll see! I might even try to enter him in some AQHA shows as he's registered and goes pretty well on a loose rein.

Idk the best way I can describe him to you is a total goof ball. And just so akfhjdkdhg sweet!! He nickers to me when he see's me and it just ;w; aaah!

Here's a video of him.
No critiques please!! I have a trainer for a reason. c;

OmgItsPattie!: The hardest day of my life was the day I walked into the pasture and was led to the body of my 17.2hh, 19 year old gelding, Sky, by my then 8 month old jenny, Willow. He died due to a unexpected heart attack and I will never forget that day, and I still often cry if I see something that reminds me of him or when I get flashbacks of finding him. I fell into hysteric shock for 3.5 hours and then into deep depression for a month and a half. The only thing that helped me out of that dark hole was spending more time with my donkeys, and eventually, they healed me enough to begin to search seriously for another horse, and that is how I came by my current mount, Buck. The pain never really goes away, but you learn to live with it and it has helped me to see things in a whole new light and to appreciate the little things a whole lot more and to complain about the unimportant things a whole lot less. When I brought Buck into my life, he reminded me a lot of me at the time to be honest. He was skinny, weak, and overall just looked defeated by all the hardships he's had to grown up with. I was like that when I met him too...I was defeated. We rescued each other the day I decided to open my heart up to him and bring him home and I'll never regret buying him- I didn't replace Sky- no one could ever replace my Skyman, but Buck allowed my heart to expand to make room for him alongside Sky and my two donkeys and has been the one to give that last push to help me out of my depression.

If you take riding lessons or are able to work with another horse, do it. It will give you a new love and a new soul to bond with and form a partnership with. You might be thinking 'no one can replace him' or 'he was too special...', and that might be true, but I'm not asking you to replace him, I'm asking you to open and expand your heart to new possibilities and give another horse your love.

If you are able to go see Wylie, I'd say do it. I'm sure his old owner might have his new owner's contact information somewhere or at least he/she got their names so you can look them up in the phone book to schedule an appointment to meet him. I wish you the best of luck in healing.

spring.: I personally think it's made up too...but who am I to say otherwise since I wasn't there. But I highly doubt someone hit a large cremello stallion in the middle of a straight road in broad daylight...but oh well. He is riding good in his new bit and now I'm on the mission of saving up for a better saddle to help suit him as he has high withers and I'd like a saddle with extra padding added onto it to better comfort him.

That barn sounds like heaven! It's not every day you meet such kind people and even more rare, respectful children! Hold onto it don't let go!!!

Do you think that horse might be related to her? Is there a way to possibly find out? I wouldn't be surprised as now a days, ottbs are just about related to every other TB on the track. Just one huge family of second cousins, third cousins...uncles twice removed...name it and I'm sure it's there. XD

Hime: Sorry, didn't think to check the last page to see if you replied. XD

That is unfortunate about the color genetics not being an option...XD I've seen that used once or twice and seen owners figure out that the horse's sire isn't who is stated in the papers because the genetics aren't possible. XD Their reactions were about similar to yours at first. lol I understand where you are coming from about wanting to find out who her daddy is- that is why I was looking for Buck's father. Hopefully you find him!

Enchanted: I just looked through pedigrees and nada. No dam/ child relationship and surprisingly I didn't find anywhere the lines mix. But now I really want this mare I mean I love ottbs and belle mer was my baby and when she was sold it left a hole in me. seeing this mare scared me but i think the only reason i want her is because everything about her reminds me of belle mer, even how she moves...

@all - Thanks for the advice, I'll keep it in mind :)

@Pattie - Maybe you could make a shadow box of good memories you have of him, look back & smile about it. But the biggest help will be time, you wont forget him, but time makes his absence a bit easier to cope with, after having 4 horses pass - 2 of which were my personal rides - I've been able to better cope with their sudden absence.

@spring - Best of luck with your college barn & team! The college I had originally planned on attending has a horse team & a rodeo team. It's a really fantastic college that I wish I would've picked, but its over 15 hours away & I'm not sure I'm prepared for a 4 year college, so I'm doing a local tech college to get my generals done.

--------------------------------------------
Ma & I went out to check on Shorty (I do kinda feel bad for my user being her name), drove up in the golf cart & everyone high-tailed it out of the barn, so it was nice to see her being more lively. Caught her & ma felt around her stomach, I think it was around the center of her stomach she reacted & kicked at her belly. Then I walked her around some more, offered her a few stems of hay & she ate them so that was good. Got the trailer hooked up, loaded Shorty in & went for a drive around the section. She pooped in the trailer so that was also good. Stalled her for the night so we can do some more observations & to see if she goes throughout the night. I bet I wont be able to sleep terribly well & will check her throughout the night & hopefully she'll be feeling good in the morning.

@Shorty- Gosh, I hope she'll be ok! <3

I haven't been around in quite a while, but good news over here at EFS! We just got a new horse, he's a thoroughbred named Jaycee. He is entirely chocolate brown with a tan mask down to his cheeks and little black spots lining his eyebrows. He's absolutely adorable, everything about him fits so well, he's extremely energetic and spontaneous and loves to encourage you to play with him.

We got him from another horse shelter down the road, they couldn't handle his boundless energy so my dad volunteered to take him. Jay was so very calm when we pulled into the driveway with the trailer. He was very curious and started sniffing everything he saw, it took a while to get him into his stable. I think he and Rusty were destined to be friends because they bonded immediately, Rusty being the first horse Jay had seen since the drive home.

The only problem is that he hates to be ridden. He's ok with a blanket and tack, stirrups and such; he will allow me to trot with him but I can't get him into a gallop or to run. He either tries (very unsuccessfully) bucking me or biting at the reigns. When I try getting him to let go, he'll snap at my hand.
Do you guys have any tips for getting him to behave? What am I doing wrong?

@Shirosashi - Hopefully not repeating what you've gone over, but have you checked all your options? Does the saddle fit? Might not like the bit, could have a health related issue (sore back, something out of place, teeth, ect). Since you say he's from a horse shelter I presume he is a rescue or abandoned or something of that sort? He could have past history that he connects faster gaits with something unpleasant. If he's an OTTB then this following would be wrong, if not - he might never have been taught how to carry a rider at a gallop?

Do you guys think it would be a bad choice to go into a horse college as a fairly beginner rider?
I've decided I want to go into college and become a vet, then I want to go to Meredith Manor to get specialized training in horses-

If your a confident beginner, there's no hurt there! Go for it!

I though the same way as you about two years back until reality slapped me in the face. Not to mention my parents and grandparent's advice NOT to go into training horses for a career. No matter how good you are at training horses, it is a physical activity. Are you willing to bust your bucket until 64+ training beautiful creatures? What happens if you break a bone? You are then unemployed for an unknown amount of time. How do you pay for mortgage then? Rent? Not to mention your life insurance would be incredibly high! Initially, your better off buying a stable and becoming a boarder!

Plus for a vet you have to be top of your class. My class size is over 600. I had to give up that dream.

**BUT do not let it seem like I am trying to smash your dreams! If you really see that as a great future, take on the challenge and prove me wrong C;

A funny thing that made me love him is that fact he is from Australia and raced in two hemispheres! Darn impressive if you ask me!

@Lye - Do you mean a college with a horse team or with an equine science department? Then again those tend to go hand in hand in a college. I feel it would be fine, as long as you feel comfortable & are willing to learn very diverse styles of riding.

Good luck on vet, if you haven't any history with a vet, do job shadows, look up silly amounts of things about vets & all they do. It's a long commitment, if I remember right from my research of the topic, the average time frame to become a vet is 8/10 years, that's if you stay on top of everything & jump at opportunities.

--------------------
Checked on Shorty this morning & she seems a lot better than she was last night. Drank most of her water, ate some hay but some was thrown on the ground, a BIG pile of manure so she's passing that at least. She's still a bit touchy about her stomach, we'll just have to see.
