@SkyHusky: Anyone is free to join in. :) Tell us little bit about your riding life and your horse?

@Shirosashi: I beg to differ, snow is perfect for riding, but slush/ice is not. ;)

@babe.groot: Sorry to hear about Gracie's situation. :c
5000 is not actually bad horse budjet. Obviously you are not going to get a top class show horse with that money, but I don't see why you couldn't find an average one. Or if you have time and skill, a young horse with some potential.
____________

Booked a massage for Heta, for this Friday. I poked around her little more on Sunday and there's something odd about her right shoulder. For starters it seems to have more muscle than the left one and also one or two lumpy feeling spots. :? That and the weird part middle of the shoulder where there is no muscle... I just took her for little in hand walk on Sunday and free lunged her couple rounds, but she was really lazy/slow so left it at that :P
Our arena is getting pretty nice, no more lakes and just one corner is still icy. ^^ Though they are saying the weather is getting worse next week(colder and might snow), so we shall see if we get winter again, or will the early spring continue. : P
I also went on some major shopping spree with mom last week. XD Dropped off our second car to be checked at one repair shop and thought it wouldn't take so long, so stuck around on the area and did little bit of shopping while waiting. On the area there are 2 tack stores, so checked out both of them(one for certain girth(which was not okay), other for general curiosity as I rarely go there). And from the second one I finally found another fleece lined rain rug for Heta, which I've been wanting bad. :D First I was like yay when I felt the liner(fleece <3), then was like oh no when I saw the brand(rain buster, good, but pricey) and then the price tag made me go yay again(69e, and I knew they had sale of 10-40% off). The next problem was size. Heta generally wears 125 rugs, but the only sizes left were much bigger plus then the sample, which was 115 and also a pony model. So took bit of a gamble and bought the 115(with the sale it was only 55e, which I consider a really good deal). I know at her past home, she fit into 115 rain buster, how ever it was a regular model(pony models tend to be bit smaller and 'narrower'). But turns out this one fit her pretty well too. ^^ And for once it wasn't too big around the neck(most common fit issue for us). At first I looked that it would be too small at the neck(back lenght was fine though), but after some adjusting it wasn't. c: I also love the fact that you can attach a neck piece to this rug. And this one also had pretty darn long belly straps, so even with Heta's round belly there was still plenty of room to adjust them.
Fitting our new rug. Probably won't have any use for it until next fall, but good to have it.
Can we pretend that the airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now...

Hullo! SO I haven't posted here in a while, but I do actually read through everyones posts, I like reading about how everyone's horses are going ^^ Unfortunately I don't have many means to post here as I am not able to ride that often... and even when I do it is just a 1 hour lesson every fortnight... nothing interesting like the stories you guys have!

But, I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on my current situation. Like I said, I am only able to get a lesson once every fortnight, but the past month or two have not been good at all, and I haven't been making any progress. I am 5" 7' (is that how you write it? I don't know xD I am from Australia, 168cm) and the tallest in my class, and I keep getting put on ornery and moody 13hh ponies with really rough gates. Every time I go there I have a positive and optimistic attitude, I reflect on the last lesson and have a plan of action for things that should help me progress... but I am not. The other day I was flat out just getting this pony to trot, let alone canter which is what I am struggling with (in the end I got maybe 4-5 strides out of her :/). So my point is, I am thinking of switching barns. The other place I am thinking of is a little dearer but not by much, but instead of just generic english lessons this barn has english or western options, plus trail ride options also. Now to me that sounds alright, just the variety, but is the horses I keep getting stuck with a reason to switch? I don't organise the lessons, my parents do, and they have already told the owner that I can't keep progressing with the ponies that I am being put on. I mean, put the 5 year old on the pony, and let me have the 16hh horse instead of the other way around -_-

//So a little bit of a rant, but any advice would be nice if any of you have been in the situation before C:

@SkyHusky - OMG That face! Ahhh he is way too cute, congratulations! Have you owned any horses in the past?
@Hime - wow, Heta has a very nice fuzzy coat! And nice deal on the rug too. I wish Australia had snow, I am sure it would be fun to ride in (minus the freezing of fingers etc) :p Hopefully that cold weather stays away though so you can use the arena - I am sure you would be sick of all the slush by now.

I'm sorry that I don't have any constructive advice but I just wanted to say that you'd actually write 5' 7'' The inches have two '' and the feet have one '.

Thank youu! I haven't owned any horses myself, but my Mom has ridden since she was little and has owned many horses before. This is my first horse. cx

I've only ridden for a few months now, so I'm still a beginner, but I'm really enjoying riding so far!

I had that problem with a stables I used to ride at but they'd put you on the horses they knew you hated the most or were scared of! You wouldn't get a proper ride, you'd just be fighting with this horse. Also, we did 3 months of circles. At first I was on a horse I loved and she was great and I got loads of confidence, then I moved on to a bigger and younger Vanner gelding, he got really upset with the circles and would just take off (It wasn't his fault though) so I was getting a little bored of this. Then, they put me on the horse I absolutely HATE. She would run off on me and they'd shout at me but I physically couldn't control the beast! In The end I left for another barn and now I have my own horse!

In my opinion, if you feel like you could do better, then move! It worked for the better for me!

Finally got to ride my new mare today now that some of the snow has melted! I took her for a little trail ride to get her used to people on her back again since apparently it's been a while since anyone rode her. She was really great! She never spooked at anything. She even willing walked through a fairly deep puddle without side stepping all over the place lol. Saturday after my physo therapy i'm going to set up some ground poles and barrels in the arena and walk/trot her over and around them (: Hopefully we'll start some low jumping within the summer! Id really like to enter her in our towns "trail scavenger hunt" that takes part every July 10th.
What that is, is basically our local trail riding/lesson center (who owns 30+ horses) lets ten people who know how to ride (level 3+, they assess your skills two weeks before the hunt) and you can pair up with one of the centers horses, or you can take your own and you get a sheet of paper and you have to find all kinds of things that are hidden in the trails, you also have to jump obstacles (but they only go as high as 2-3 feet tall) ,go through deep rivers, get off and on about a million times and you have to be quick! It will be my third year doing it (I won in 2013!) but my first year (hopefully) doing it on my own horse! So excited (-:
