@Bella.

I have always used them to indicate to campers how and where to hold reins but I think they're just for show.

@bella

There purpose is to stop the running martingale from getting tangled with the bit or the end of the reins. They block the martingale from going any further then that. Some reins come with that little piece while others you will have to buy rubber stoppers.

Hime wrote:@blazesong: Quick googling and I found gray standardbred stallion(goes by name Jet Laag and I think same horse also goes by Jet Laag USA). http://www.empirestallions.com/empire-s ... /jet-laag/ While roan is possible in the breed, but it's pretty rare. Even rarer than gray I think. Didn't find out his birth color, but most likely bay. So the horse in question is likely just going gray and not roan.

yeah he is jet laag and jet laag USA ,i belive the USA bit was added when he came to AUS (i think he did, i looked it up and found a few foals for sale of his in aus)
since i only get aus sites half the time with horses i was hoping someone would know him

The "things" are called stoppers or keepers (sometimes different names) and are to stop a running martingale (the rings) from slipping to far up and catchong on the buckles or bit, if you have a martingale on your horse I HIGHLY suggest using them as if they get caught it can cause accidents

Thank you so much for the responses everyone ^^ And thank you Zayn for telling me their actual name c:
I must admit, I will probably be back asking advice on tack since I may or may not be getting into tack making for Breyers... xD Since I am not able to ride all that often, I don't get a chance to have a real good look at some tack pieces, but you guys are so knowledgeable <3

personal update:
i did go down...hard....i took a mean fall from my Girl yesterday, that was sadly see by a Group of Little Kids with there day nursery teacher...who even called the ambulance....what a way to start your day ....in the Hospital ...only to learn that you where right and nothing broken in the back only some contusion of back-ribs and behind...and gone out of there as soon as they let me go on my own risk and wish...
I really dont know what rilled this stupid Girl so up on this shriking children, but she was so nervous that i was on my way back as a bird did fly bevor our noses out of some trees and i could not hold on fast enough to her mane, to stay on her back and did go down ...i think over her back? while Holding with a death grip on to the rains.
...that is now my first fall of her bareback...nice...now i have a with saddle fall-a trying to Mount her back and sliping on ice fall and now a fall from bareback with her in 4 or 5 years...sad...
i still dont get what spooked her so as the child shrieked like they do when playing outside... maybe the cold air did double the Sound? but now i really think about a back protector....maybe when i take a fall again it does then not hurt as much as it did at this Moment where i did play a fish out of water flopping around the ground trying to get up again...^^ and now ....so mean this hurting Body.....
but enough of this...

@ Hime: Heta does not look as fat as you say atleast on the pic with the cute Long neck blanket^^
do you have new pics of Ty or do you want to visit him?
How is your injury, is it bether now and does your therapy work?

---> oh and did i told you that i was accepted as volunteer too...the last time as i did told you i try out for it too^^ still have to go looking if there was a new message.
And still have to find a Caravan trader-dealer who does rent one for those days...as i really dont want a tent...as all the items needed are sooo heavy without car.
Did you find a place to stay; or a friend to go with you?

@ ξƞçɧαƞtєđ: to Willows liking of the ground-earth or sand....maybe like Hime did say ist really only the wrong salt-mineral lick for her that she has, some do it because they Need the specific Minerals of the place they lick, maybe let the vet test the blood and the stuff where she licks...then maybe you will know what salt-mineral block or extra feed you Need to give to stop it...?

--i did not know much about donkeys till now but as a woman i often walk with our Dogs does thinks abou buying two i had a look...there are many interesting books and sites specific to behavior and feeding habbits of them...i really did not know that they are so different then horse in some things...(like that loose salt is preferred over a salt block since they will consume a greater volume of loose salt than from a block, especially in below zero degree temperatures)

i found this interesting:

Enchanted, I'm so so sorry about Sky. But if it's any comfort to you, one of the horses at the riding school has frequent heart attacks (she's retired because of them) yet afterwards she always seems to forget them quickly and be unaware that anything happened. So it seems highly likely that he went without suffering.
Willy sounds good fun! I'm just wondering how many people are going to be confused by the similarity of names what with him and Willow!
Goodbye Sky, rest in peace. *Hugs Enchanted.*

Merlin is getting much better and he's been there less than a month. I rode him today in a lesson with about five other riders, only walk and trot but he was much easier to keep moving and he was starting to stretch his neck out more. I don't know how much was due to other horses being present and how much was just him being nicer. Danielle rode him later on his own and I didn't see much but I've been told he was much easier to get into a canter too. Unfortunately the horse in the stall next to him, Blue, hates him and they have to be kept well apart on the arena. Also Hayday, from the next stall down, seems very distressed by Merlin's prescence. He paces about and tries to pull loose and generally acts like an idiot now. Daz is now in the stall next to Hayday so it could be Daz bothering him or Merlin, I don't know. Anyway Merlin is starting to be quite a nice pony. Yay!

@Luzien: Ouchie, bet you got nasty bruises from that fall. Lucky though nothing worse. I don't know how horses are around there, but here chilly air tends to get the ponies little more hyper up than usual. So might have been combination of many things, though those kind of birds are simply evil. Heta tends to spook them a little, but then take some big forest work machine and she kinda just looks at it weirdly for moment then walks by.

That's the thing, she hides the fattyness now very well. ;D She doesn't have that huge belly, but the weight is divided everywhere else. I actually look at her and go like 'Oh, she's not that fat anymore', then I poke her sides and can't find the ribs unless I reeeally push and move my fingers to find the bone ridges. Like I've even had to adjust the belly straps on her rugs to almost max in some case. : P On sort of more positive side, as she has put on weight some of it has gone to her back.
That rug is actually a separate neck tube/piece I made and then the rug itself. ^^ Though the neck tube would need little remodeling as it will not stay put if I leave it on Heta in the paddock, even if the edge is under the rug. : P
No new pics of Tý. :c Last saw him in January, but might go see him either in March or April, seeing that the breeding show entries are likely to open up by then.
Shoulder's pretty good. :) Lately it's been hurting mildly if I do some sort of twisting movement with it, or something like that, but it's not bad at all and only momentary. But other than that it's tolerating riding pretty well and few times I've even ridden 2 days in row without it starting to bug me too much, so it's getting there. I haven't seen a physio therapist since January, though I probably should go see one as the shoulder has started to hurt those random times...

Yay! :D I haven't received any messages so far other than copy of my form. :\ I keep wondering if I remembered wrong that they were supposed to send out more info in February... Probably will have to send them a message myself and ask little more detail of when would they like the volunteers to arrive, as I've yet to book flights because I'm unsure if it's okay to arrive later in the afternoon and what time I can leave on the last day. ^^' (also not booking flights still kinda gives me the chance to pull back...)
I haven't looked around for place to stay too much to be honest. We did quick check with mom while this whole thing was still just a thought, but there weren't too many available(or were multiple person cottages, or just too expensive really) and most were so far I'd need to rent a car. And renting a car is bit expensive(buss/train ride to the grounds from airport ~10e, renting a car for the time ~250-300e) and as mom is pretty much paying for the trip I'd rather keep the costs at minimum. >_<
I also saw how many volunteers had signed up from each country, ours has lousy 7 people coming and I don't probably know any of them(nor have they announced themselves in facebook when I asked around on the local Icelandic horse group). So I don't think I'm getting to share with any of those. Though there was little talk at the stable that few might come to watch, but I'm not getting my hopes too high... By the way in lead with the volunteer numbers was Denmark and Germany with 160 people each. XD
Can we pretend that the airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now...

Wow, I haven't posted in a while. Happy to see everyone's doing well!
I haven't been riding much, only once or twice a week because of the 2 or 3 feet of snow everywhere. We got a new trainer up at EFS, he's so funny and carefree. His name's Jack and he's only 22. I have to say, he's much better than the last one, she didn't treat any of the beginner riders differently; instead gave everyone the same lesson.
