Quincey is a pony yes. He's a Haflinger QH Cross.
You can't sensitize this pony to leg aid anymore. He's 16 and been in the school for over 10 years. He's very thick and stubborn about it too. When I was in the clinic he was really acting up and being a nerd so the clinician got on and was correcting him with the crop and leg and he was bucking non stop for about 20 minutes. He's too smart for his own good haha.

I don't know how to post a video on here..

snip.

So, just that the horse was bucking with a clinician rises questions about why he would be in a school program. If he has such an adverse reaction to leg, that does make me worry. However, you know him better than we do. But In this case, I think larger spurs would only make him more upset. Maybe try a flat lesson without spurs and see what happens. I used to have a lot of problems with Kiko and now that I have taken off my spurs, she is a lot happier. I also know she is happier when she is not stabled where she is currently stabled (she likes to see people more than she currently does and I think that depresses her. I wish they would move her). So that could also affect your confidence.

I would request to try other horses as well.

@spring
He was only so naughty because the clinician was asking him to go into a really deep frame in which he never does anymore and he didn't want to do it. He is a safe lesson horse... the clinician was using the dressage whip a lot to correct and he bucks at a sharp and hard correction with the whip, but what horse doesn't react to that.
I've ridden him plenty of times without spurs when I was younger at that was awful. He reacts better to spur than the whip. He's pretty much dead to the leg so using spurs is a must. If I kicked him hard with a spur he wouldn't buck, it's the crop that grinds his gears, not leg aid.

i had the best ride on my guy today.
i felt everything my trainer has been teaching us fall in to place and i felt so nice and so in sync with him.
plus, i sat on him bareback to warm up, which was awesome. he's still got a lot of muscles to build before i actually ride ride him bareback, but it was awesome.
today he also decided to really stretch down in to the bit and ugh it was amazing
him in a frame feels really really nice.
i'll post more pictures once i get them from my dad, if anyone's interested
just pretend there's tons of sunglasses emojis here

I found out today that the riding school has lost one horse and gained another.
James, a 16:1hh black chunky thing died peacefully in his field a few days ago aged 28. There was no sign of it coming, he had been fit for work right up to the end. I rode him a few times and he was always extremely lazy but he was basically a good-natured horse and I liked him a lot. Goodbye big old thing <3

The horse they have gained is a little grey pony called Merlin. He has only been there a few days and they haven't yet decided if they're going to keep him, he is on a three-month trial. He's being kept alone in quarantine at the moment so he hasn't set foot in the stable.
I was working there today and in the afternoon Danielle, one of the girls who works there at weekends, came up to ride Merlin.
I rode Daz in the arena with them. Daz is my favourite there, he is yet another little grey pony! Daz is about nine years, 12:2hh. Danielle used to ride Daz a lot when he first came before she outgrew him. She is very tall but also very light so she gets to ride new inexperienced ponies a lot. She loves Daz, therefore I love her. My logic. :D

Peter, the owner of the stables, told us to trot Daz and Merlin around for half an hour. Daz was fine, he's a good little thing now ut he used to be a brat. Merlin is still firmly in the brattish stage. He is 13 but he's as bad now as Daz was when he first came, aged around six. We didn't quite manage to trot continuously for 30 minutes. I was concentrating too much on Daz to really see Merlin but he was a nightmare to get into a canter. Danielle couldn't use her stick on his bum without him swerving off towards Daz, who was waiting patiently in the centre. Eventually she got him to canter for about half the arena but he was on the wrong leg. I put Daz away at that point but I did catch a glimpse of Peter cantering Merlin round.

I hope they keep him, or at any rate don't give him back until I've had a chance to ride him! They cleared a stable for him if they should happen to keep him by moving two horses in together.
These two happen to be brothers, both black and both 14hh. They are called Highway and Highcliffe. The only way to tell them apart is that Highway has a tiny white star and his mane goes on the left wheras Highcliffe has his mane on the right and he has a couple of white hairs but no proper star. I wonder how often people are going to bring out the wrong one? It nearly happened today. The way to remember which one is which is that Highway has his mane on the left and when you drive down the highway you drive down the left-hand side. In this country anyway.

So that's all my news. I'll definitely keep an eye on Merlin (what a cool name!) and keep you posted!

Omg!!! I'm so excited. I entered Rusty into a Wertern dressage competition with my dad's approval since my mom doesn't like Western. In the second-to-last week of practicing, I leaned too far into the saddle and he jumped the wrong pole, (13 cm- only meant for older riders) I don't know who put it in there but I fell a few feet and sprained my ankle.

In a brace for the next week, I was finally good enough to ride (this is three days before the show) and I practiced harder than before. The day of the show, 9 other riders were there. I was really nervous, making sure everything was perfect. But I had plenty to do; double checking Rusty's tack, setting up our obstacles, etc. Rusty was very laid-back, he wasn't nervous at all. 10 minutes before the shoe, everyone went to their box (we all had numbers, I was 5) and waited for the judge to intro
duce us. When called, we would circle the ring one by one and start the course. Rusty was a little unsure of what to do when we finished the circle, but I was able to urge him on.

When the judge called the names of the final three, I almost fainted :P. The final three contestants had to compete to determine a winner. Mickey is another horse from our barn, he was in the contest with us and I was sure he'd win but his rider turned the corner too fast and faltered. Anyway, Rusty won first place and I'm so proud of him. All our hard work finally paid off. :D

I managed to get a lesson today! I was riding a little paso fino mare (who I rode before), which meant I didn't have to post on her trot. My instructor said that this one was one of my best lessons so far. It was kinda funny, since someone else was also riding at the same time, because Gypsy (the paso fino) kept on trotting because she heard the other rider clicking to her horse to trot, when we were supposed to be at a walk XD

I don't own or lease a horse but I do ride. I recently decided to stop lessons with my trainer in search of a new one. I ride western and it gets boring after a few months any suggestions on how to make things fun again? I'm not looking to compete I just need something new insted of cantering around for a hour (walking and trotting too lol)

Try to do pole bending, barrel racing practice, even though you aren't competing in shows it'll be fun xD. Also try playing capture the flag with pole bending or even practice with balance with the spoon with an egg.

It all depends...you dont own or lease...but do you want to lease? when not it all depends on the horse owner-stable owner who gives you a horse to ride.
When you are a good rider and you know the horse, the owner may let you try something new, like.... do trail ride, endurance-distance, western games, maybe find a stable where you can work with a horse on the cows(bringing them in from te pasture and so...)- other horse games( from the ground and from the horse(there are so many fun ways to work with a horse, it only depends what the owner wants how good you ride-how fast you can learn.....and so on)-) , maybe even small jumping, ....or ask the Trainer you did ride with if you could do some new lessons in western, maybe western dressage...
Good luck, and write how it goes and works out with your riding :D

----------------------
I had such a fuuuuuuuuuuuun ride today...till some moments ago....it was great, a bit slippery on some parts of the road but when you ride on the grassy or stone parts of the road or stay on the green stripe-tree line Thing of the "not so real trail" on the side of the one road i was on its ok.....Drotti was so sweet and did not try to trot-canter at all like the last time...ok maybe she did see that it was to dangerous for here...she looked where she stepped, sniffed the ground when unsure, or tapped-hit-scratched it with the hoove softly...such a clever baby :D
and today i did not slide so much with the slippery Pants ...who knows maybe the combi of brushed horse with slightly wet fur from the light sprinkle of snow did it
such funny ...i think 90mins...wow i did only think 40mins
