Here is a Youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_4AZM7F9ug

We measure horses for blankets from the centre of the chest to the centre of the tail,

Thanks!

@Hime-I remember that picture! I've still yet to see a fluffier pony.

Speaking of ponies... I rode one today. He's about 14.1/14.2 hands and he's an Arab cross. All I have heard was good things about him and my instructor wanted me to ride him. Mind you, I am about 5 foot 11, but in no way too heavy for him. Plus, I've ridden short stirrups many of times. And this pony pulled me off, not once, but twice! We had a good lesson, just so frustrating. I'm usually good at sitting things, but I haven't ridden a pony in probably at least 2 years! The first time he got me off while we were cantering. Completely random and I just hit the dirt. Next time, right after I took a jump, my instructor kissed a bit and he bucked, then ducked and I was in the dirt again. I think my height in this situation was a huge disadvantage. He isn't in any way stocky, so he just wiggled out from beneath me. It was just funny because she has gone on and on about how great this pony is and I hit the dirt! But other than that, we worked on flying leads(which I can't remember the last time I rode a horse with those) and we did a few courses. All ended pretty well.

But help me pony/shorter horse people:
I am great with sitting the long strides canters but I feel like I can't figure out how to get the rhythm of it and sit it nicel . I think I did better today than I ever have, but still. Help! Am I just not meant for these smaller creatures or is there a secret that I just don't know about?

I'm 5"3 and Tinker's just over 12hh. Somewhere between 12 and 13hh. I'm far too big on him, but his canter is really nice, and I sit on him really well. I think relax a bit more? I don't know... I just know Tinker so well by now. c:

I'm not even in my teens yet and I'm around 5'10 as a rough guess. I hate being tall a lot, especially as I prefer ponies to horses, especially Welsh ponies and Haflingers. Being tall really sucks :thumbdown:

those are both breeds who are very strong, and often can carry an adult and heavy adult(Haflinger) without Trouble, but they are late bloomer and only can be riden from 4/5years on.
So ist really no Problem. Im also not very small, ok the wight is low, but i ride Icelandic horses, this are small horses around 120-145cm, more small than Haflingers and the larger welsh...when im not fully wrong with the later. So no worry with being to tall
Atleast Haflinger you can ride all your life! the larger Welsh when you stay light enough also as adult too.
Please klick them or they will die°°!!!

    I'm pretty short, only 5 foot. I can easily ride icelandics, highlands and even welsh section a's sometimes.
    I can however ride bigger horses but I prefer small chunky ones xD

    Haflingers are lovely too, theres one I ride in the summer. A total barrel <3

Does anyone know any good places selling Haflingers? It could be a breeding farm or a normal ranch. Places in Ontario, Canada are more preferable!

@Hime; Lol Young ones can be tricky buggers lol I just couldn't see him being small enough to get under the fence without any kind of stretching or loosening of the wire, but he could have. Since he's jumped before, I feel like it would be more likely but I guess we'll never know for sure :lol: I'm hoping he does have some jumping potential, all his siblings have gone on to be fairly successful or showing potential at very least, so fingers crossed. We can free jump in the arena, I try to get Donny through every two weeks or so, so free jumping is definitely in the future for him :) I've let him over little cross rails and verticles to try and coax even a little hop, but his legs are so long he just steps over xD
Oh my gosh no need to rug that pony lol I'd forgotten just how fluffy she got XD

@Scarlet <3; Thanks, he has got a cute little face <33 I'm loving his personality so far. First few days he was really really shy, but now that he's settled in and decided I'm not so bad, he's really playful and curious. Always up in your face, wanting to play with anything and everything he can get his teeth on lol He comes looking for scratches and cuddles, rather than hanging around behind the big boys hahaha

~~~
Merry Chirstmas form the land of Aus everyone! I hope everyone's holidays have been good and both horse and human get spoilt!
While we are all comparing heights to horses, I think I am a tad small for my boy. I'm 5'6'' and weigh 109ibs last time I was at the doctors. Sky is 17.2hh and weighs at a rough estimate of 1250ibs-1330ibs. I should probably weigh him...xD
Hime: Oh dear...that sure is a fluffy pony! I wish my boy got like that- I love fluff on horses! haha. He just fluffs out in patches- which looks horrible mind you. The chestnut hairs are always more fluffy than his white hairs, which I don't get at all. xD <3 How is Mr. Ty doing? I know I keep disappearing and asking about him, but the stories you share about him...it's impossible not to ask. xD
yager: Congratulations! We expect updates of you and your four-legged partner now. He is a beauty.
Equine~CrayCray: Oh, I feel for you. My trick to busy weeks like that is lots of rest at night, and lots of coffee in the morning. Hopefully everything works out for you.
Mustangs: Not sure if we'd even be able to tell you that on CS, but if you're subscribed to a horse magazine, they almost always have classifieds at the end and they should be breed organized. Your internet should help you out too if you just search for reputable breeders or barns. But be sure to do your research before hand.
I know I promised you all pictures, but lately, they've been extremely dirty due to the rain so I may have to wait until Christmas day to put some up. xD
But as for right now, I am super excited. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get my Sky Man and Little Miss Willow anything for Christmas due to our money being a bit tight, but in some Christmas cards, we got a few bills and now I plan to get them a ball to play with out in the pasture. I had tried a football a while back for Willow to goof off with in her stall so she didn't get bored, but the nest day, I found it popped and throw out of her stall and in the neighboring pasture right by the barn. She was either having too much fun, or just hated the thing so much it had to die. xD I can't wait now! *squee*
Sky's come down with a little bit of thrush in his front left hoof, so I'm going to be playing around with that for a while with keeping the hoof dry and cleaning out his hoof twice a day if not more. If it's not one thing, it's another with him. xD He certainly loves to keep me on my toes.
As for Willow, she is doing well. But I do have a few questions for you. I've accidently gotten her desensitized with the lunge whip, so now while we are free lunging, she is no longer responding to it in the way she did when she was first introduced. I don't want her to be afraid of it, but I also wish for her to respond to it. Any ideas how to get her to re-establish the whip with moving forward instead of just walking up to me for cuddles? xD Other than that, she id doing pretty good. Very proud of her so far.
