@t'challa
No, I ride bareback and sometimes western saddle. I'm going to try to learn riding bareback and jumping. Have you ever heard of Alicia Burton? She is a bareback rider who jumps with absolutely no tack except a bareback pad and a special thing she has around his neck; it's basically a rope that comes around his neck that she holds on to with both ends. The other day I was practicing holding onto him in a sitting trot without holding onto his mane to practice balance. Also, thanks for the pointers. :)

@ξƞçɧαƞtєđ
Get another vet? The wormer might not have been the problem. I didn't say not feeding him oats would help. Tanka needs something added to his diet to make it more balanced and nutritional. He most likely got sick because he wasn't getting a balanced diet, which that's going to change. I bought him a horse feed yesterday that I'm going to (gradually) start feeding him.
As for posting, first of all--98 % of the time I don't ride with stirrups. And little basics of English riding are irrelevant to me. I don't ride English, I ride bareback/western. I'm not a timid rider anymore, I'm only trying to play it safe. I am not a very experienced rider and posting while he's in a trot is going to be a little hard without falling off. :/
Please stop advising me to get a trainer, I don't have the money for one. Period. I have put my fears aside, so I'm only trying to be safe than sorry.

    @Chicknsrock: I second everything Enchanted said.
    If you are holding onto the horn, you shouldn't be riding by yourself. If you can't afford lessons, you can't afford a horse... it's not fair to your horse
    Alycia Burton does not ride only bareback. She is where she is because she has been riding her whole life correctly with a balanced seat with a trainer. She is an eventer and she also jumps bareback with a bridle. She is a correct horse trainer, not just a bareback rider.

    @Greendaze: She is! I have two pairs of Tuffriders, I hate the quality lol. On one pair the zipper broke after less than a year of use, the other pair is my show breeches but they fit weird and the seat is slippery so I'm going to get rid of them too. TS are way too expensive to me for schooling breeches and plus they only have white and tan in full seat (I ride dressage). I love Horze breeches, I think I might get a pair of them soon too. :D I love colored breeches!

    @Enchanted: Wow, that rodeo sounds like a nightmare... but I'm glad you guys had a great performance despite that and Sky was a saint! Ouch, I hope your foot's not broken :( broken bones are not fun at all.

    --

    Schooling the mare bear in the morning and then we might go for a little hack. c: I went ahead and ordered those breeches last night... *swoon* LOOK AT THEM
    They're gonna look killer with a white polo and a brown belt, or a black belt, or a light blue polo, or a navy polo... wooooooo so excited about these
    Ooo and I have some big news... I am trying a horse for half lease at my barn! He's a 17hh TB x Clyde and is an eventer. I would show him in dressage probably first-second level depending on how we 'gel' together. I am super duper excited about him and he is such a great opportunity!! I was gonna start looking for horses to buy since I haven't been able to find a lease but this is soooo much cheaper and now I can buy a new saddle instead of a horse c: my trainer's going to come with me to see him and try him before he comes to my barn! Eeeek

@ChicknsRock
Jumping is part of the English discipline. If you don't learn the basics, it's very difficult to jump. Also, I wouldn't recommend jumping bareback if you can't post-you need leg strength to keep you in a good two point {Which is very hard to learn without a trainer correcting your position}.

@Enchanted
Omygosh I am so sorry. I hope you're okay and don't have to experience that again <3

@Fortunea
That's awesome! Tinker just sounds like a great horse c:

@Nocte Luna
Aww, is there anyway you guys can keep in touch?

@Kleinconi
If you enjoyed it, then go for it! It's a very fulfilling hobby and there is so much to try :D

@ChicknsRock
Now that you've told us about how you ride, I have to side with the others. If you're going to learn how to jump bareback, you best learn various English techniques. Posting is definitely one of them. If your feet are in the stirrups, then posting is definitely safe. Unless Tanka is veering all over the place or going crazy, you shouldn't fall off if you're posting correctly. If you can't afford a trainer but still want to keep your horse, at least ask people in this thread. Many have been riding for 6+ years.

@stirrupirons
those are some super sexy breeches <3 I love the color c:

@Hemalily
We're going to take some pictures of her favorite horse, Paris, and send them to her on Facebook or by text or something. We'll braid his mane or something cute like that for her. :) If you have any other ideas for what to send her, I'd love suggestions.

prissyshoo22 wrote:Hey guys ^_^ I was wondering if any of you could give me some advice I'm getting a younger Arabian thats not trained and I would love some tips on how to train the horse its being shipped here and arriving soon so I would love any basic tips or anything c: . Thanks c:

How much experience do you have training/riding horses? If you have a lot, then you should know the general idea, but I'm assuming you don't; you should definitely consider getting help from another horseman/woman, preferably a trainer, but anyone who has a lot of experience with horses should be able to help, like an instructor, rider, other horse owners, vet etc. You should always try and get a second opinion from someone more knowledgable than you and always ask for help, training a horse can be risky because if you don't do it the right way, they can develop bad habits or behavioral issues. Remember that you're always either training or untraining a horse every time you interact with it. If you don't praise your horse for performing a desired behavior, then it won't be able to learn that it did well, and vice versa; if you don't take control of potentially dangerous situations while they're still relatively harmless [nipping, kicking, charging, etc] then it will only escalate, because you're essentially letting your horse know that behavior is okay by not doing anything about it. Food is the fastest way to an animals heart, but don't rely on it to build your relationship on. A healthy relationship with a horse takes more than pets and treats, it requires mutual respect and a kind of "symbiosis" if you will. I've never trained a horse myself but these are just some basic things I've learned over the years about establishing a good connection with your horse. I'm sure some more people here who have exp training can help you more, but good luck in your endeavor, and congrats on your new family member! I love Arabians.

Thank you so much for the advice c: I was thinking of definetly getting help when training as I have never trained a horse before but I figured I could just do the basic stuff by myself but your advice definetly helped ^_^.
