Yesterday we went to the pet store and found the cutest little robo hamster!! He was the only one left, and he is just the cutest! He kind of looks like a grumpy old man lol his name is Freddy, I'll try and get some pictures of him later but he's really shy cause he's still adjusting :) is there anything I should know about robos? We have a Teddy Bear, and we used to have a dwarf, but I'm just wondering if there's anything specific to robos I should look out for?

@howltothewind i don't own a robo, but i was planning on getting one before i got my campbell dwarf so;;

- they're speedy little demons
- they're hard to tame
- they are prone to diabetes much like many hamster breeds

you probably know these, but just in case ^^

    urgent!!

    i will be taking him to the vet for a professional opinion soon when i can. my hamster has started losing his fur & becoming super skinny. he is about a year old & came from pet smart so im not sure if it’s because of breeder or if something is wrong but im super worried about the little guy. he seems to be eating normally, don’t see him running on his wheel as much. he just seems to sleep a lot. any advice while i wait for a vet visit is appreciated!! (:

    honestly my hamster's favourite toy are toilet paper tubes :"0c whenever i put one in his cage he really enjoys nibbling on it, and its at least half gone by a day pft

    he also enjoys these pretzel sticks, but i heard that some hamsters will completely ignore them so ?? im not sure ^^;

I stockpile cardboard tubes. Reva goes through them like crazy, but Lola & Willow are weird, they ignore them for ages then destroy them all at once :P

Oh, I have stick like that too! The ones I have are apple wood, I always have them on hand for the chinchillas, but Lola likes them too :) Which reminds me, I need to check whats she's done with them, last I saw them, she was carrying them off into her nest :P

so, two days ago i bought two female rats, about 2 months old, i'd guess.
today i tried to lure them out of the cage with various treats (they started taking treats from my hand on the first day), but they just stop at the door, take the treat and go back to the cage, hiding in the igloo. i tried giving them baby food on the spoon, but they just can't get out of the cage, no matter what i do.
does anybody have any good tips on how to get them out? i thought of picking them up and getting them out like that, but i'm scared that they might get too frightened and bite me.

It sounds like you're doing pretty good so far - but these things take time. It can take days or even weeks before a timid rat will be comfortable enough to voluntarily leave their cage. Patience and perseverance are key. They'll get there eventually, just let them go at their own pace. Forcing them could possibly make things worse.

When I got my very first rats, Hugo and Humphrey, they were practically feral. It took several days of spending time and feeding them treats through the cage before they'd approach me, and then another couple weeks before I could even touch them. All in all it took me about a month before they happily let me pick them up for cuddles and scritches.

What are peoples opinions on the Omlet Qute hamster cage?
Just seen an ad for one secondhand, and I'm wondering if it'd be better for Lola. She's currently in a Living Word Eco, but I don't entirely trust her not to find a way out of it. Or destroy it, I have caught her chewing a couple of times.
The Omlet looks more escape proof, and has the height, which I think she'd enjoy. I can't find sized for it though?

She's so hard to eeep occupied, I've never known a hamster be so...intense.

*EDIT* And if it's not suitable for Syrians, what about for mice?

    It's not suitable :( hamsters do better with floorspace than that, and it's more designed for fitting in a stylish home than for meeting welfare needs. For the price, you could buy two alaskas! The barred floor is bad for little feet, and I'm not sure a suitable wheel would fit. I'd also be worried about the vertical tunnel, and wouldn't buy it for any rodent.

Yeah, I've found measurements for it now, didn't realize it was that much under standard, I always though those things were supposed to be huge. The picture on the ad is pretty deceptive too.
I was planning on making modifications to the shelf/tunnel (I don't like the vertical tunnel either), and ripping out that wheel. Lola's a big ham, so she needs a 12".

Oh well, I'll just have to keep coming up with other ideas to keep her occupied :P
