    hey guys me again!

quick question, when is the minimum age i can breed my syrian hamster? also is a year too old for my female to be bred?

    I'd say likely.
Why are you wanting to breed? Is your hamster from a breeder or is she from a pet shop? Pet shop hamsters don't have a known genetic history and therefore you can't take precautions in breeding them as you don't know what recessive genes they might carry.
Not to mention breeding is dangerous and you can loose the litter or the litter and mum too. It's expensive business and you need to make sure you have homes lined up and if they fall through that you can look after potentially a large amount of hamsters with correct sized cages and wheels.

I'd like to have more litters of my own. I've bred winter whites years ago and this is actually my first time owning a syrian this year. My girl is from a breeder and she's turning a year in September

This is the sort of question you should be researching and asking your breeder about C: use them as a mentor!

Meet my new mousies!
They were feeder mice, I just got them a few days ago.

Spelunker is the grey and white one. He was an active little thing and stood out to me amidst all of the other feeders because of his unique speckled pattern. Feldspar ("Fel" for short) is the black and white one, he came from a different cage and I picked him up because of his adorable markings and sweet temperament.

Since bringing them home they have adjusted quite nicely. Their contrasting personalities make them very fun to watch.

Does anyone have any good resources/care sheets about hamster care, especially Syrians?
I’m not looking in to owning one, but I work at a pet store and I really want to do some research into what I should be suggesting to people especially housing wise. I’ve seen so many conflicting things that trying to sort through it is a bit overwhelming, and I’d love to hear what sources you guys look to.
Unfortunately there’s very little I can do to steer people away from the tiny little cages, but I want to be prepared in case I get the rare very receptive customer that wants to splurge on a proper set up

I also got a Guinea Pig a few months ago that I absolutely ADORE, but I’ll wait to introduce him until I finally bring home a friend for him in a week or so!

Would an 11" Trixie wheel, and/or "6 flying saucers be suitable for fancy mice? And how many mice to how many wheels?
Just want to know if the spare wheels I have will be suitable, or if I'll need to get new ones.

I should think so, though don't hold me to that. My mice girls have a 7.5'' wheel and a 6'' inch flying saucer and they both seem more than big enough. In fact, my two largest girls (before Scally met an untimely end) could easily run side-by-side in the wheel without their backs arching or tails curling.

Between my three girls I had one of each in the cage at the same time. Frequently, as mentioned above, my girls would either share or they'd happily take turns.

I had to post this because about a year ago, I got two mice named Maple and Marley...

D: They didn't make it last night, I don't know how, they were healthy.

^.^ But, on the bright side, I'm getting a new pair in a couple of months from a breeder, I'm so excited.

Dear rat owners,
I have a few question.

I have 2 rats, and they both have tumors growing. One has a mammary tumor that has grown so large and so rapid that she is having issues getting in and out of her bed. The other has a mammary tumor and a small tumor growing under her front leg.

It’s not life threatening and I understand it is now a quality of life issue, however it’s difficult watching them struggle around the cage. I contacted the humane society about possibly putting them down, and was told it would be $57 each.

Is there any preferred method to putting rats down? I don’t want them in any kind of pain, and I want it to be a safe and humane way.

If you can pm me with answers, I’d appreciate it quite a bit. Thank you all.

Thanks!
The 11" I don't know whether will be a little too big? It's plastic, so it's really light weight, but I still can't imagine a mouse in it :P I have two or three flying saucers though, and can always get new wheels.

I need some advice. I got these two rats, they weren’t very tame and started out a little nippy but it was more curiosity than anything. In the month I’ve had them, they’ve gotten much worse. Like just took a chunk out of my finger worse. I don’t know what to do with them, like they are spiraling quick. I’ve been trying to work with them every day and get them tame, and honestly I don’t even care if I get bit as long as they get better but it’s not, and it’s quickly getting to the point that they aren’t safe to even feed without heavy duty gloves, what can I even do in this situation? I really don’t want to take them back and unknowingly put someone ELSE in this position but clearly I’m not making the situation better , any advice/thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated. I have 6 rats besides them and have never had to deal with biting before, let alone this full blown aggression I am honestly at a loss rn
Hug your pets. They're gone before you know it.

@Team_Dobby sorry to hear you're having troubles, and it takes a loving person to not give up on them so I applaud you! Since you mentioned wearing heavy duty gloves when feeding, may I ask are you always wearing gloves when handling them?
