So after spraining my elbow yesterday, my first question was 'can I carry rats around in my sling?' My mom had to come to my house to take me (hit my head as well and couldn't see to drive) and her response was 'no don't carry rats in your sling'

So of course I carried rats in my sling, Nymph joined me in taking the dogs out to potty today. She's such a good little doe.

I love how you just have a goat in your yard (':

On another note, I've been looking into getting a new small animal. I have no pets right now, other then a few family pets ( a dog and some chickens that stay outside )

I want one that is tame (does not need to be too tame, tame enough not to bite ) and pretty easy to care for. One that is cheap to buy and doesn't need an extreme AMMOUNT of space. Rats are not on option because my parents don't like them )':

Does anyone have any suggestions?

A guinea pig, rabbit or chinchilla? The last two need space, but are relatively low maintenance. Guinea pigs are a little higher maintenance, but don't need THAT much space.

Funsized- haha my backdoor opens into my goat pasture. Though at one point I did have four goats in my yard on a city lot, I now have a small farm.

As for you question, I agree rabbits might be a good option. (There is a rabbit chat if you want more info btw) I have a ton of rabbits and they are all very sweet. Most of mine are in 2ft by 2ft wire cages (wire bottomed is best so they aren't sitting in their own waste). Price depends on the breed, but you can usually find a good pet quality rabbit for under $30. Super easy to care for, they need pellets, hay, and water.

If your interested in rabbits, feel free to PM me.

Guinea pigs would be my personal third choice after rats and then rabbits for a small pet. I love mine, but I just don't enjoy them as pets as much as I do my rats and rabbits.

Keep in mind that guineas are highly social animals so if you only want one new pet they aren't the species to go for.

*Pops in with my experiences* I feel like Guinea pigs aren't a good pet to have unless you have ALOT of time to pour into them. I own one and spent lots of time with her all time and raised her well, but she's still HIGHLY aggressive, as in you can't touch her ever without getting attacked. No matter what I do she won't tame, Maybe it's just a rare case. However I still feel like they aren;t a good pet for beginners or people with little time.

Rabbits I feel are great pets, Easy to care for and nice to have around. Wire bottom cages keep them out of their waste, however you have to watch out for injuries from them.

A proper gauge wire cage usually will not cause issues^ I've seen more sore hocks in rabbits on solid floors than I have from a proper wire cage. Plastic resting mats also help a lot.

I have a couple of mine in solid bottomed cages, and their feet are always dirty no matter how much I clean. Meanwhile my wire caged rabbits have nice clean feet

Can I just say, I'm in no way a beginner to pet care. Over the years I've bred two types of birds, taken care of mice, rats ( just to rehome the sweeties ) and plenty of other pets. I now have budgies that require much care, so I'm good with something a little bit harder.

Rabbits have been a personal favourite of mine, especially Flemish Giants .
I've never thought of chinchillas, though I've heard they aren't that social? My grade 3 teacher had a chinchilla and they didn't like kids at all.
Maybe just because we pestered him.

I'd love to go to the rabbit thread!

Is that really a red-eye? I thought red eyes were darker. It looks like camera/tapedum/flash to me. Oh well, I will look forward to seeing the pups. You should post pictures!
