Hampsters generally are a type of rodent who like to be alone. If you "tame" your hampster they'll be more friendly sure but they're not attention seekers like most most rodents. They definitely need to be held every so often but your guy\gall should be fine as long as every day you or your aunt\mom hold him for a little while each day.My own two hamsters (and my sister's) are straight at the cage door if you're in the room when they are awake. They always want to come out and definitely love the attention.
That's probably because you give them lots of attention and\or they may have a friendly personality which may attribute to that. Also there are friendlyer breeds then others so you should keep that in mind. I had a ham who sadly passed away but he wasn't very friendly and kinda sluggish-he was a great pet though.

I'm going to Pets at Home tomorrow to grab a couple of supplies for my boys. I'm tempted to try some live foods (mealworms or crickets mainly) but I was wondering what everyone's opinion on feeding those are? I know the protein intake on adult males should be limited, but as an occasional treat it should be okay, right?
If not, I'll just stick to their yoghurt drops and dandelion leaves X3
