Hello everyone! Yesterday I adopted my hamster. She's a Syrian, but about the size of a dwarf right now. She's four weeks old. I'm thinking about naming her Leah.

i remembered binder clips i was just making sure of that, so next time im out i'll be sure to get a good amount so i can tack it all down

and those are really cool, it may take me a little while but i think i could do that, i just need to invest in fleece in bulk, figure out how to work the sewing machine, and look around for some cool hides

and thanks, i'll see if i can get one next time we're out, i guess i was just wondering if the kind with the bars on it were good. but i won't use cat litter for sure (rhys would probably try to eat knowing him anyway)

on another note the new boys are settling in much better today, i could hear them drinking all night and they've cleared about half of the food i left out. the littler guy also seems to enjoy climbing around the cage and even came up to the bars to say hi to me (though he wasn't kean on being touched just yet)

Ahhh, all your babies are so adorable!

Also, good news. I got a bigger cage! All I need now is consumables - bedding and food.

And, of course, the mouse.

My girls are all doing good. The rats are all living together now! Just have to get Rogue to stop power grooming poor Skye, she has a bald spot lol

Im a bit worried for them tonight, I had to leave my house, so I'm at my sisters for the night. My mom is suppose to be taking care of my critters, so hopefully she doesn't accidentally let them out of their cage. Sif and Rogue are terrible about leaning out of their door trying to climb up onto the top of the cage.

I've been trying to decide what pet to get and my boyfriend's been trying to pressure me into getting a mouse, he really loves them for some reason.
As you know, I said i'd been wanting a hamster but that may change to frogs since I don't know how much time i'd have to spend time socializing with a hamster.
I have a lot of time now, but once I get a job I might not have as much time, plus, sometimes I spend 3+ days at my boyfriends house and my mum or aunt has to take care of my animals while i'm gone.

What do you guys think? Is that a bad situation for a hamster or would it not matter?

Hampsters generally are a type of rodent who like to be alone. If you "tame" your hampster they'll be more friendly sure but they're not attention seekers like most most rodents. They definitely need to be held every so often but your guy\gall should be fine as long as every day you or your aunt\mom hold him for a little while each day.

My own two hamsters (and my sister's) are straight at the cage door if you're in the room when they are awake. They always want to come out and definitely love the attention.

That's probably because you give them lots of attention and\or they may have a friendly personality which may attribute to that. Also there are friendlyer breeds then others so you should keep that in mind. I had a ham who sadly passed away but he wasn't very friendly and kinda sluggish-he was a great pet though.
