I know this is the rodent thread but I am in desperate need of help right now, and since this kind of relates to rodents I thought I would post it. I may get a bunny for my birthday, but my mum thinks that my cats will eat it. Is there a way I can prevent that?

There's a seperate thread for rabbits. c: Here's the link.

As long as your rabbit lives in a secure hutch I don't see how the cat will be able to get to it? Just be smart whenever you give it some roaming time and lock the cat out of the room it's in.

Mice:
One of my typier does had a a litter. She seems to be doing a great job.
In my splash cage, Ive found 4 dead (chewed on) pinkies in the last 2 days, but the pregnant does still look pregnant and the babies looked pretty small, so Im not sure of they were born dead or one of the does is killing them. I guess Im going to put each doe in her own cage and see.

Rats
Betty had a litter of 4, but she again built her nest too well and now she has 3. Her babies are pretty large though. Im hoping for pearl or american blue.

I got a robo hamster at the mall today! It's so cute! It's been chillin' in its cage. It like the wheel but it can barely move it since its so tiny. So I help it by turning the wheel :3 I haven't handled it besides putting it in the cage because I don't want to freak it out, so I am letting it settle in before I take it out and what not. I am going to have to look up what kind of food to give it. Any advice?

If your going to tell me what I am doing wrong please don't reply. I am going to look up proper care and everything. I will save up for a better fitting cage, I don't want to get yelled at please <3

Well I guess you already know you're doing something wrong since you said that... But I'mm just going to give advice here(:

Please don't but an animal without doing the research first. I know you have good intentions but they should get everything they need right away and it should already be at home before you get the animal.

For food I would suggest Hazel Hamster. It has everything they need and more! It's very healthy and has enough protein which many brands don't.

I hope your hammie will get lots of loving ( as I'm sure you will give ) and plenty of space to play <3

I doubt im doing anything wrong. I had hamsters before so i had the cage and all that already.

---------------------------------
I have 2 old box's and I am going to make a big play place for my hammie, its all made of cardboard so I will throw it out once it trashes it (chews or goes) And it will have climbing things and a little cave to sleep in with some fluff for comfort, and a food bowl, and some water just in case it gets snacky, in case your going to ask I would NEVER EVER leave it unsupervised or in the same room as my cats EVER. EVER! And it will have some toys if I get some hamster toys at walmart when we go. It will be great! It will be kinda boring since my mom said paper is bad if it chews on it, but hey a healthy ham is better then a pretty box that will just get thrown away anyway right? What do you guys think, will Toki Doki like it? Thats my hamsters name BTW.

May I join? (:

@darkvodoo: oooh, I cannot wait to see pictures in around a week, when they have fur and everything. They are very adorable.

This will be my newest furry addition. <3 She will be moving out with me in four weeks. (Will pick her up on August 28 already, though)

Image

Bought her an (at least) 100 cm long cage, with a height of about 60cm. I hope she will love it. :3
Image

Everything inside will be out of wood, no worries. Including a big wheel (24 cm I think?) . No plastic will come close to her, except for ground, which will be filled with lots of hay and bedding.

Any name ideas 8D? She is a dwarf hamster.

PS: I've had lots of rodents before. Including rats, mice, bunnies and guinea pigs. I do enjoy tipps about self-made toys, though! :)
