I You see i cant afford a vet right now... my parents got a new baby and my allowance has ceased... i cant get a job until i go to college... and i dont want to beg mom and dad for help again. i know the mass doesn't hurt her because my sisted kept playing with it last night... its puffy bur feels almost as if its unattatched to internal organs.

I also need to find a free neuter clinic... these are "cheap pets" to my parents at 3 bucks a pop....

What if i wanted to have a litter in hopes of having blonde babies.... although i don't really think its a good idea... because shes so old and it would be a first litter and the tumor too... idk.

you shouldn't breed animals with tumors. it's hereditary and rodents have a bad enough likelihood of developing it as it is without people knowingly breeding even more with the illness.

@Spiderfish
You can do it. I did it for a while when my store ran out of pellets for 2 weeks (I never thought that would happen lol). The thing is that you just need to provide a large variety of veggies daily so that they get the nutrients pellets would give them. I'll have to see if I can find any links for you.

@Allois Trancy
I wouldn't breed her. If she's older, then that is already a major risk to worry about. A much greater chance of complications or death than a younger pig. Second, while most rumors are not hereditary, some can be, and that's not worth the risk especially if you don't know what kind of tumor it is (cancerous or not)

Hello all!

I am new to this thread but thought id join in since im getting my first rat in 2 days!

I have done my fair share of research on rats a few years ago and topped up on it now.

I was going to adopt a few rats 2 years ago but got 2 ferrets instead then another 2 early this

year! I am getting a 4 month old rescue male cinnamon berkshire and then 2 8 week old dove

males. I have turned my bookshelf into a rat cage and ill have to post some pictures soon!

I dislike petshops and have heard that the stuff in there rat food isnt very good for rats

so i have made up my own mix of food, it is a combination of plain unsalted/sugar rice bubbles,

dried fruits, unsalted nut mix and then also a bowel of fresh veggies and fruit to go with their meal everyday.

I am really excited about getting rats finally!

Oxbow is the best rat food, plus daily veggies, fruit and herbs throughout the week, and protein once a week.

My girl that i've had for over a year and i noticed a huge marble/boucyball sized lump and she's started to lose weight and i'm scared.

I also shortly after that my mom surprised me with two big boys that I named Winston Churchill and Teddy. I want to keep them in seperate cages until i know for sure she cant have babies anymore.

I'm just really freaking out because my girl, Tang Shen is one of my best friends.... I don't want her to go :C

Definitely take her to the vet. Vets can often remove them and can spay as well to reduce the chances of more, though sometimes it's too late for a spay to be affective.

I actually once thought Harmony had a mammory tumor, but thank god it ended up being an abscess.

Guinea pig food question:
Would a hay/veg only diet be possible? I'm pretty sure I've read about it before, but no idea where.
Any links would be greatly helpful :)

Or, could anyone recommend a good food brand, sold in the UK?

Yup, it's very possible! Many argue that it's better than pellets, but I don't have cavies so idk. Do they sell Oxbow in the UK? I know it's the best brand for them here.

I live in Australia and at all petshops the only 'rat' food they sell is labeled at rat, rabbit and piggie food. I can't order anything online at the moment and I checked with both lady's im getting the rats from and they both said its fine for them.

Does anyone have any ideas for home made rat chews and what types of wood works best? I want to make it look nice and not just have sticks lying around :)

Anything but cedar and pine are fine as wood chews. Never use cedar or pine.

Can anybody tell me what kind of rat (as in colour wise) Kirby is on the previous page? Kirby is the one with the diamond marking on her head.

But most wood chews are made of pine, I believe.

I told y'all about how Beast was being a grouch and didn't want to accept Jones right? And since Baze has his tumor, I was gonna move him into a smaller cage so that he didn't have to move around as much if he didn't want to.

Baze and Jones are loving each other so far! 2 nights and 3 days together so far and no major issues!

Two successfully bonded, and very happy little rats!
Still haven't decided on a name for the new girl.

Any links would be appreciated :) As i don't tend to knock around other forums and such, I'm not sure what to trust.

@ FuzzyThePunkCat

Apparently Oxbow is available over here, but only from one online retailer, so that's not an option.
The more I look into food brands, the more I'm cnvinced pellet-free will be best.
