Should hopefully be going for my mice Friday.
Ringing the shop up tomorrow, to check they have what I want. According to their current stock list, they don't have any hairless (but have more due in), and only have male tricolours. But, it was updated over two weeks ago. So hoping they have what I want now.
Cross your fingers for me?

ALSO, I eventually have my new camera! Need a new memory card, but as soon as I get one, prepare for the onslaught of rodent pictures! XD
I have so many photo-shoots planned, you're all gonna get sick of seeing my pretties XD

It is with the deepest sadness that I report that my son, Indie, passed away today. He was my very first rat. He had been bought as a feeder and the snake didn't eat him, so he was put on Craigslist. They didn't care what was done with him. That's when Rat City Rescue (which I now co-run) found him and saved him. Then I found him and begged my dad to let me have him, and he finally did. He was the reason I fell in love with rats and the reason I now have my 18 other rats today. He inspired me to save other rats like him. Kovu, Fray, Chula, Rufus, Kahlua, Harmony, Rin, they all have Indie to thank. Despite why happened to him and the trauma he endured, he bounced right back. He was such a happy and curious little guy and he grew to be huge. He loved to sleep on his back and try different foods. His 7 brothers all loved him very much. He and Fray butted heads at first, but they became the best if friends. Indie was Fray's very best friend and the reason Fray has become such a friendly and inviting young man. He fixed Fray like nobody else could after what Fray had went through. They were very close in age and played and cuddled until Indie's final days. They all loved him like a brother. He was the unspoken leader of the mischief, they all respected him greatly and he was very fair. He was always doing something silly, he was my big dork. Indie ended up having masses in his chest at only 11 months old. He was never a healthy rat, and he had bad breeding to blame. Me and the vets did everything we could, but he just couldn't breathe. He passed away today when he went in for x-rays with my dad while I was at school. I loved him like a son and me and his brothers will miss him everyday and never forget him. I feel like I have lost my child. I love you Indie, I always will. I really hope you knew just how much I love you and I hope I gave you a good home for your short life </3 Rest easy my big dork <3
"I try twice as hard and I'm half as liked, but here they come again to jack my style."
In real life I have 4 dogs, 3 cats, 2 rabbits, 26 rats, 2 gerbils, 2 cockroaches, 1 turtle, 1 axolotl, and 8 fish.

Sorry to hear about Indie! :(

Blossom & Buttercup had their babies today. I came home and they looked muuuuuch thinner. xD I got these two pictures real quick and then put their bedding back into the can with them. There are so many babies! They decided to have them in the same can too. So hopefully they just go in and take turns nursing or go in together. It looks like 20 babies or more in there. My goodness...

Hello all!

I am new to this thread but thought id join in since im getting my first rat in 2 days!

I have done my fair share of research on rats a few years ago and topped up on it now.

I was going to adopt a few rats 2 years ago but got 2 ferrets instead then another 2 early this

year! I am getting a 4 month old rescue male cinnamon berkshire and then 2 8 week old dove

males. I have turned my bookshelf into a rat cage and ill have to post some pictures soon!

I dislike petshops and have heard that the stuff in there rat food isnt very good for rats

so i have made up my own mix of food, it is a combination of plain unsalted/sugar rice bubbles,

dried fruits, unsalted nut mix and then also a bowel of fresh veggies and fruit to go with their meal everyday.

I am really excited about getting rats finally!

Is there anything you can do about mammary tumors on rats?

My girl that i've had for over a year and i noticed a huge marble/boucyball sized lump and she's started to lose weight and i'm scared.

I also shortly after that my mom surprised me with two big boys that I named Winston Churchill and Teddy. I want to keep them in seperate cages until i know for sure she cant have babies anymore.

I'm just really freaking out because my girl, Tang Shen is one of my best friends.... I don't want her to go :C

In some instances it's possible for a vet to surgically remove the mass, but unfortunately, just like in human cases, there is no way to ensure that she won't develop another mass. I would call your vet and talk to them about it.

Keep the males separate from her unless you happen to get them neutered. Her being old is no way to guarantee she can't be impregnated.

Guinea pig food question:
Would a hay/veg only diet be possible? I'm pretty sure I've read about it before, but no idea where.
Any links would be greatly helpful :)

Or, could anyone recommend a good food brand, sold in the UK?
