    Where can I buy a single/double critter nation?

    I'd prefer a double, but I might settle for a single (and just add to it later).
    And, is 1/2 in. bar spacing okay for baby rats (like 5-6 wks)? I don't plan on getting anymore while I have my boys, but I want to plan ahead.

Any website where you can check local listings for sales (Craigslist, etc). If you can buy online then that is where you'll find the best prices. I don't know about pet stores in the UK, so I'm not of much help there. Amazon seems to have good pricing...and this site sells it, but that price is waaay more than what I'd go for, that's nearly $400 USD!

Yes, 1/2" is okay for 5/6 week olds, though smaller is better. Sasha was small at 5 weeks and he stayed in a modified bird cage with 1/2" bar spacing as was fine.
Reality is subjective.

I've had it happen twice.

The other thing people forget is rats can escape. I had a boy very adapt at escaping his cage even after it was made like Fort Nox came home he had let himself out and my girls. I ended keeping him down stairs were he still let himself out ( cages we not as solid as they are know ) but couldn't get to the girls.

You can not blame people for making an honest mistake the fact rats can breed from 5 weeks its not all plane sailing and trying to sex squirming ratlings isn't easy we are human we make mistakes.

Very very true! My DFN is fully hardware clothed on the walls. I use the tubs, so the middle thing that the boy's tub sits on isn't hardware clothed. I didn't even think about Rogue getting up through those bars.

But she did and then I couldn't catch her. In trying to catch her, both Banchee and Baze slipped past me into that same space I couldn't reach. So did Storm. Luckily neither of my boys had any interest in mating as far as I could tell. I watched as close as possible and I don't think either girl got mounted.

They are on pregnancy watch though! And the problem was fixed so now they can't get up there near the boys.

    @Nok
    I'm in the US, not the UK XD I found a cage almost exactly like a DCN on Petsmart/Petco's website but after the last time I ordered from them online I'm terrified that the cage would be broken or have missing pieces by the time it arrived here. Thanks for the info about the babies. I hate the look of mesh covered cages, but I might do it anyway (if I had babies) since I have a herding dog that wouldn't hesitate to catch one if they got out and I wasn't here to stop him. DCNs are lower than the cage I have now as well. Better safe than sorry, y'know?

    There's nothing wrong with my cage, but I want to upgrade. I've always wanted one too! ^^

Im not really a fan of critter nation cages. Probably becouse they are a bit much for me to move and put in the shower alone,lol.
I get cages from cageworld.com. They are made lighter, but are just as sturdy.

fed my rats some lychees tonight for dinner, sprinkled with some cooked chicken breast for good luck /shot

I think my rats prefer the meat though. XD They ate all the chicken already.

hard to believe they're already almost one year old! QuQ

also, I'd like to get them a nice large wheel; does anyone have any recommendations as to any specific brands? I don't think I'd be able to fit a Flying Saucer wheel into my cage since they'd have no room to run around on the bottom of the cage, but I should have a big enough space for one which can attach to cage walls. oDo

    @darkvoodoo
    I have one like this one. Not sure if the one I linked is the size I have, the one I have is big enough for three rats. Only difference is I found it on ebay.
