I know! :D

I am now officially part of a 3 person independent rat rescue team! I was invited to join :) So we will soon be doing many rescues between us.

I would wait till you have a stable job and can help cover the costs before jumping in to rescue. The friend I have has spent who knows how much on vet bills, converting two rooms in to rat rooms ( one for males and one for females ) and don't forget the food bill because as soon as people know you rescue rats you can end up over whelmed.
Hex has at least 50 rats not counting his show rats and it takes a lot of time, money and space to keep them happy and health.

Oh don't worry, I know this all too well.
My dad pays for most costs and doesn't mind as he also loves the rats. I already have rescued many rats. I have 12 now.
I have spent nearly $500 on cages and I'm getting a second DCN for my girls in June.
I've rat proofed a room in my house for free roam.
I've spent over $500 in vet bills just in the past several months on rescues.
I spend $60 on food every 3ish weeks (we feed the best food too, Oxbow).

Rats that end up with the other rescuer will be rehomed after being fostered. I keep my rescues for now while I have the room, money, and time, but once I feel I am at my limit, I will also foster.

In real life I have 4 dogs, 3 cats, 2 rabbits, 26 rats, 2 gerbils, 2 cockroaches, 1 turtle, 1 axolotl, and 8 fish.

If your dad pays for them, then
your dad rescues rats, not you.

If you aren't the provider for
your animals, they aren't your
animals. If your parents pay
for their food, vet bills, etc,
then they are your parents'
animals, not yours.

That's what I mean your dad maybe happy know but just think when the bills pile up and I'm not talking just hundreds in talking thousands on just vet bills.
Also cant just say I had enough its a life thing with any animal ( I said no more ferrets still got three more rescues ) and people don't care they sometimes just dump them on your door step.

Nope, not even slightly true.

I have purchased each of my animals. I have organized every rescue. I take full care of all of them. I buy supplies and such. I make all decisions regarding them.

He just pays for their food and vet bills until I have my own job. He doesn't even consider them his. And when I move out, they'll all come with me.

And AngelusGaston, I wouldn't dream of getting rid of any pets ever. And I'd always make sure I had a space open for unexpected rescues, as I do now.

It isn't that simple though every rat needs quarantine, those who need meds need separate care, vets arnt cheap for rats and if you get 8 or 9 suddenly dumped on you what then.
Your don't seem to be taking in the magnitude of what your about to do.

Rescue cases do not pop up THAT often around here. We are NOT becoming a shelter. We are taking in rats that shelters can't or that we personally get asked to take. This other girl has been doing this for a long time. I'm joining her since we both do the same thing, so we can help eachother. We will still be doing the same things we are doing now, just with assistance from eachother and having it more organized.

Even my friend with a shelter for rats around here doesn't take in too many.

I have a room with separate air and heat in my house I use for QT.

Pets tend to end up with the primary care giver
if it is taken to court. Primary care is NOT who feeds,
plays with, and buys things for the animal. It includes
the following:

Who paid for the pet?
Who paid for any vet bills?
Who paid for food?
Who paid for for any licenses needed?

Your father is providing the money to care for the
rats, so in a court of law your dad technically owns
them because he is paying for them and their
necessities. Also, what job are you planning on
getting that will pay for the care of all your animals?
Even if you're getting paid more than min. wage, it's
still not enough to pay for the quality of food your dogs
eat, not to mention emergency vet visits to exotic vets
for your rodents and axolotl.

Yes, that will totally be an issue when my dad takes me to court...???!?

I better go inform my dad that according to an internet user on a kid's site, all of my animals and his girlfriend's animals 16 hours away are now his. I bet he will get a kick out of that lol.

Wow.

It's not the fact that your father will take you
to court, but the fact that until your name is
on the vet and grocery bills, they are his animals.

But, all things aside, I'm leaving before this gets
more immature.
