    Well...I was excited when I saw my package today x.x
    I had ordered some things from Petco.com that I couldn't get in my store and let's just say I am NOT happy now! Not only was the package all beat up (maybe our UPS guy was having a bad day?)...but I'm dumbfounded by what I found when I started going through the bag of Hazel Hamster. IT'S FULL OF CORN AND PEAS! I must have picked out and/or thrown away half the bag worth of it! Makes me wish I knew someone with chickens or something so it wouldn't be such a waste!

    I tell ya, about two to three days ago I got really scared when I came across an article of safe/non-safe hamster foods and what I was feeding mine was on the list of non-safe foods (it was mostly because of the corn/pea content). So naturally, I hunted down what everyone else was buying and claiming it was the best, which is Hazel/Harry Hamster. I bought it thinking that it was going to be the mother of all pet foods that everyone was making it out to be. But no. I guess all I can do now is look for any differences in my animals...but I probably wont be buying Hazel Hamster again, not if I'm just going to be throwing half of it out all the time.
    /end rant

    What do you guys feed your hamsters?

    I feed Orion and Honey P@H Hamster Nuggets. It's a complete food that contains soluble fibre, balanced calcium and phosphorus (for healthy teeth) and higher levels of Vitamin E to help the immune system. It is, by far, not the best food, but I believe it's better than Wagg. That's from memory though, as I did a nutritional module last year at uni and I did an assignment on syrians.
    I completely avoid any mixes/muesli as it can promote selective feeding, which in turn leads to nutrient deficiencies. Orion and Honey get plenty of suitable fruits and veggies and they both get some scrambled egg every Sunday to boost their protein intake, as the food isn't high enough as I'd like.

I did some quick research, a lot of people recommend Hazel Hamster but those same people recommended the Care Fresh mix, which I know is likely low quality. Oxbow makes a hamster/gerbil kibble type feed and it appears to be pretty high quality. You can read up on it here.

I know nothing of hamster nutrition, so I don't know if the protein/etc is good or not.
Reality is subjective.

    @Keriae -
    Aren't those UK brands? I'm in the US and I don't think I could get those without ridiculous shipping costs XD
    As for selective feeding, my hamsters do have their favorites, but they generally eat all of their food. Also,
    I'd be really interested in that assignment of yours if there was a way I could see it.

    @Nok -
    Very true. I know of Oxbow's healthy handfuls and I plan to get some to add to their food. It's just that I've had quite the struggle finding Oxbow Regal Rat in my area (pet stores near me don't carry the full line of Oxbow products because they're expensive and not a lot of people buy it). I can only hope that finding it for hamsters wont be as difficult. However, it's not really nutritionally complete by itself (at least it wasn't back when I was doing research). Maybe it's time I revisit the books! XD

    Ah, yes they are xD I just prefer not to buy mixes but it's best to go with whatever you feel best ^^
    I could see if I can find it and quote it via PM to you?
    Can't remember the grade I got on it though xD

    That'd be great! I guess I'm not really looking to switch my current food, just looking for stuff to add to it.

I've never heard anything good about Harry Hamster?
It's just another museli, so should be avoided.

I feed mine Selective Hamster. It takes the form of little heart shaped biscuits rather than museli/pellets.
Dunno what the nutrition on its like (nutrition really isn't my strong point) but, looking at my hams, it must be doing something good XD
I've also never known any of my past hams go crazy for previous foods I've used than they have for Selective.

I can also vouch for the guinea/bunny versions. Selective guinea is actually the only thing I could feed my skinny without him dropping loads of weight.
