Tiger, I love those hammocks I need to save up and get a couple for my ratties, I had to make some out of old jean material and its a pain to keep it clean and attached to the cage so I just resorted to putting it down on the bars in places in the cage so they aren't stepping on bare metal bars all the time to give their little rattie feet a break.

I'm getting a hamster today! c: I already got the cage, and I'll be going to the pet store in a little while to pick out a hammy and some food and toys. Any tips? I did tons of research, but I'd still love some tips on socializing, handling, etc. and maybe even on how to choose the right hamster! Btw, I'll be getting a Syrian.

I'm getting another guinea pig!

Reserved him today, going to view him on the 31st, and he'll be ready to come home close to the end of next month.
And- best part- he's a pedigree lunkarya! I've been dying for a long-haired pig again, and lunki makes it even better!

I get his papers, which I don't have with my pedigree skinny. Not that it matters, because he'll be a pet pig, but its still nice to have.

Breeder's going to send me more pics on Thursday.
He's a single litter, so will hopefully be a big pig XD

Congrats! Syrians are awesome pets. :) try to pick a hamster with bright eyes, and a good temperament. I'll be able to give you more tips when I'm not on my phone. What kind of cage did you get?

Thanks <3 I can post a picture of the cage later, if you want. It's supposed to be a bird cage but it works great for a hamster! Not sure about the measurements, but it's pretty big. At least much bigger than most of the little cages sold in pet stores. It has a tray underneath, with a wire bottom over. I covered the wire with cardboard and newspaper so it's now solid. And I put in Carefresh bedding. It has a side door which I secured with paperclips.

At the pet store the only hamsters they had were males. It wasn't until about 10 minutes after I got the hamster home and settled in that I noticed the lack of testicles. I started to get worried so I looked up some pictures online and did a little research and now I'm sure my hamster is a girl. I'm worried she's pregnant!

I registered for Hamster Hideout forum so hopefully they can give me some help. c:

By the way, her name is Rosie <3 She's all white and has short fur. I'll post a picture in a little while when I can get on my iPod.

I'm on hamster central actually, as is The Mad Girl. If you can post pictures of your ham from the underside I can help you find out the gender. Males when young or scared won't show testes. Can you see nipples?

This thread might help. It was my pregnancy tracker when we got Java, and found out she was pregnant.

Eta: good call on bird cage and floor covering. You may find you want to make a plastic shelf for it instead for cleaning.

If there are nipples she's definitely female. Males don't have nipples. Let's hope she's not pregnant, but if she is Mad Girl and I can help. I'd suggest joining hamster central; I checked out hamster hideout and I heard a lot of negative reviews when I was looking for a site to join. They're super helpful on HC and really knowledgable. Many of the mods are highly reputable breeders, UK judges, and in general amazingly helpful and smart people. :) are you sure she was with males? Just in case id call the store and inform them and start giving her a bit of a protein boost just in case. She's probably a baby anyways so it'll just help her grow. Some sun flower seeds, cooked pieces of plain chicken and baby food are great.
