I think it should be fine.

Ahh, thanks. ;v; Field / wood mice are pretty tiny too, a bit bigger than harvest mice but still quite petite so it should be able to work, it seems pretty cheap and a lot better an idea than buying a ton of hamster cages (the tubs they sell for bin cages are far too small and clouded here, it's annoying. :c)

Whee! The babies are four days old now (date of their birth is day 0 the way I count).

This means:
- Their ears are beginning to develop
- Their eyes are beginning to protrude from the skull, to become real eyes and not black dots
- Their teeth are starting to come in
- Small tufts of fur are appearing

No pics! :> But I'm hoping she'll snap some soon.

We decided on our new set up; I'm hopefully, buying two new tanks, 29gals. Not more floor space, but more height to allow for an 11'' Wodent Wheel. I then plan to put them both in an expedit, one on the bottom, and one on the top.

Ideally I was going to make bin cages but my boyfriend thinks they're trashy. Then was going to make a detolf, and my boyfriend said it'd never fit. Then split a 75gal, but boyfriend didn't like that it didn't fit on any furniture. X__x So this is the best idea I have. If I can't get 29gals, unfortunately I'll be sticking with 20gal longs. They'll fit an 8'' wheel, and since most of the hamsters in my area are quite small, it should be fine (Java is clocking at under 120g) but I'd prefer the 11'' wheel of course. So cross my fingers I can get my hands on a 29gal and not for a huge expense!

    I've owned guinea pigs, mice and currently have rats. I would also like a chinchilla but I don't have the time or money for one on top of all my other critters. I think hamsters are really cute but they aren't allowed in this country ; n ;

My rats are brothers named Bourbon and Whiskey. They are almost two. Whiskey is really tame and chilled. Bourbon is really hyper when you first get him out of his cage but slowly settles.

Hi Guys!

So it's my birthday soon and I have asked for a hamster- i'm super excited for my new arrival if and when it comes!

I am just a bit worried about the wheel squeaking, incase this happens and keeps me up. Is there anyway I can stop this without having to buy a super overly priced wheel online?

I've heard that vaseline can stop the squeaking but I've never tried it myself ^.^
Orion's wheel doesn't squeak really, and when it does it tends to be quiet.
It might be an idea to invest in some ear plugs though: for the first week Orion kept waking me up: I think the worst was five times during the night x3
Just make sure the wheel isn't too small: continued and prolonged use can result in the curving of the spine. Flying Saucers are pretty cool and stop that curving. I've just bought one for Orion and it should come in the next week!

What type of hamster have you asked for? Syrians are bigger and easier tamed, but have to be kept alone. Dwarves can be kept together but may need to be separated. Hekomi is a great person to ask about dwarves, or hamster is general. She's got four and is getting a fifth

Thanks so much!

I have asked for a Syrian, I had one ages ago and wanted another one for ages. I have been reading and watching and researching for ages. It's just that there isn't much hamster stuff around here if i'm honest. The UK isn't good for Hamsters where I live haha.

I live in the UK too! -le gasp-
I've found it quite alright, although I'm really wanting a bigger cage: the ones at Pets At Home aren't big enough by my standards. I've found a pretty nice one in a warehouse store (JTF, if you've heard of it) that sell a bigger one for what I bought the cage she's in now for.

The only pet store around here is Pets and Home and they are rubbish, we have like a few small ones but they don't really like hamsters, mostly dogs, cats and fish. I live up north- like way up near scotland and it's basically empty D:

Will have to look around for big cages though- I don't really like the idea of a bin cage as they don't look nice to me haha.

*Magically pops in* Hey guys, I just wanted to share a picture of my gerbil, Snowdrop! ♥
I've had her since November 2012, I believe. She's a pink-eyed white and she's gorgeous. x

For a Syrian, I'd get probably an 11" or so. 8" might work. The silent spinner is the quietest one you'll find, it comes in 12''. Wodent wheels are also quiet and come in both 8'' and 11''
