I know you said you are going off the thread and I am sorry to hear that, but I must.. I can't leave this.

I do understand you are trying to get a point across, and as I explained elsewhere, it doesn't have to be an argument, it can simply be two strong viewpoints discussing their viewpoints back and for, aka a constructive argument.

But I must say, I am offended by what you said. Not about the dog shelters, but "'my posts are giving you a headache" was a little.. Discouraging to me. Would you rather me keep my opinions to myself? Ouch. That wasn't very nice.

And I do have a right to complain about kill shelters, I very much do. I have the right to complain about whatever I want because I am a unmanned being entitled to opinions and tell me, who are the people who have a right to complain about kill shelters then, hmm? People have different opinions about things, they are allowed to argue about what they believe in.

And I don't see how I could have put another litter in the shelter, it's not like the person I got piper from is going to encourage it to other people, she said she would do it once and that was it. She wanted to try it out, see if she could do it. She realized it wasn't the rig thing for her. But I don't understand supporting BYB.

I realize not every city is like mine, I'm just mentioning that I think that it's better to have no kill shelters around rather than kill shelters because I've seen both sides and we've done much better with the no kill shelters around, rather than when we had the kill shelters.

You do realize that fight rings, and dog deaths, still happen and would still happen even without kill shelters, right? It happens around here, we don't have kill shelters. Sometimes people steal dogs from backyards and use them in fight rings.. What does that have to do with shelters?

And I don't see why I can't fight for animal rights without being a vegetarian???? That's like saying I can't fight for gay rights if I'm not gay????
You see, it actually is not fair for dogs and it's perfectly fine for the other animals because they were raised to be killed, that is their purpose. Their purpose in life is to provide food for others.
And we buy all our food as natural as it comes :/ so we aren't supporting those horrible factories.
Dogs are not born and raised to die like that.

And saying I don't have any common sense or reasoning is also.. I don't want to say it but I can't think of a nicer word, it's rude. This is an opinion, many other people have it too. You can't just say that what I believe in is wrong because that's saying that no kill shelters are wrong, and what's wrong with no kill shelters? Nothing is wrong with mine to say the least.

Jazi wrote:Fuzzy, people. aren't. dogs. Dogs do not wake up every day hearing about how the other dogs are treated and wondering and fearing if they'll be next. Dogs do not read the news about other dogs being killed and have to hope and pray they are never in an area or situation where that happens. Dogs are not subjected to the more insidious nature of racism. BSL is NOT racism. It IS offensive for you to compare the two. That is why many people, more than just me, have told you to stop. Because you are the one that doesn't understand, at all, what it's like to be a PoC. I've done both the fight against BSL and the fight against racism. They are not the same. At all.

What happens to BSL breeds is awful. But it is not racism. It's not anywhere close. Before you try and bring in an emotionally charged subject to a discussion, you might want to make sure that if someone is telling you that it's offensive, you maybe rethink using that argument. Like I said, it's a surefire way to get people riled up and the thread locked, otherwise. These are topics that affect the daily life of many people, some of those people even here in this thread. And I know that I wasn't the first person to bring it up.

Honestly, if you can read that entire post and know that I have still more examples of blatant everyday racism and violent acts, that I have to know and live with, that I have to be concerned about every time I have an interaction with someone or even walk down the street, and think that it's the "same"... you are very ignorant of what racism truly is.

You have had genetics and predisposition explained to you many times before. You have been given countless sources and people with leagues more experience in the breed both in the thread and quoted from other sites, including people that you yourself have quoted. Breed clubs. Rescues. Reputable breeders. People with way more experience than you. You have had SSA explained to you many times. I don't know what other proof you need, because all I can think is that you will continue to ignore it so that you don't have to look up and face what you have been told over and over again. Because they're all wrong, because you have a puppy that is not yet showing any of these traits. That may never show these traits- because genetics are not about 100%.

I picked my cat up out of the local kill shelter, where they had 400 cats that year with more incoming. Where cats were being given away, something that costs them a ridiculous amount of money, because they didn't want to euthanize them but because not as many people were adopting as were surrendering, they ended up having to euthanize a lot of cats. What to do? Build another floor? With what money? Sorry, most kill shelters are government run, and with budget cuts everywhere with this craptastic economy, extra money to build a larger building or to add more floors just isn't going to happen. Donations, sure, but because people have this horrible attitude that no one should support kill shelters, they aren't getting donations. Volunteers could help, but hey, people shouldn't support kill shelters, so no one's volunteering either. Which means no one is volunteering as a foster home, which means less homes for dogs to escape that environment, which means more dogs getting put down when there is no space. Breed rescues can help ease the load somewhat, but they mostly care about their specific breeds, and certain breed rescues (like bully rescues) are filled to the brim. We could build a new shelter, but again, lack of money and volunteers cuts that idea short. What do you do then?

People who own the breeds do have to think about those things. I feel offended when people bring my dogs into it, but nobody cares so why should I? Yeah, we chose the breeds, but I feel more like Wolfgang chose me. I LOVE HIM and I won't let people offend him.

@MaybeItsMaybelline, I agree on the shelter thing as I said. But, what they're saying about the BYB things is that others who do breed a lot can produce puppies with health problems and their owners may just give them up to a shelter. Because of lack of spay and neuter contracts, dogs can be bred and their pups end up in shelters and the cycle goes on. We aren't saying Piper's siblings will, hopefully their breeder had contracts for spay and neuter and that the pups can't go into shelters. Good breeders have contracts that you cannot put the dog in a shelter and it has to be returned to them instead. That helps a lot.
And I agree, everything doesn't have to be an arguement on here.

None of my dogs snap at me, but the white pit mix at the shelter does. I mean it sounds like a gator. Go look at a video of a gator eating and that's what her jaws sound like when she doesn't connect with skin or cloths.

I mean she is the cutest little puppy, and I love holding her and cuddling with her, but actually playing with her in the pup room, is painful! I'm trying to work with all the pups to stop nipping by saying a stern no and giving them a toy instead.

Brownie (shepherd/lab mix pup) nips too, but not as hard. I'm worked with both of them today, and ill try again next time I go. Any tips on how to work with them? (I haven't had a nippy puppy In years, Chewie's teeth have only touched my skin twice by missing a treat. He never intentionally nipped me or any of the family)

Fuzzy, are you missing that I have these breeds too??

Since I have experienced both, do you really think I am clueless about what it means to own a dog from a BSL breed? Considering I work with and walk and co-own a scarred up ex-bait dog?

I agree with you on this one. I have three 'Bully' breeds,
two out of three show no sign of aggression, but Penny
is slightly DA. Why? I'll never know, my mum got her at a shelter.
Penny is proving that you can work through these behaviors, though.
She is being rehabilitated very smoothly, and has already accepted
two dogs outside our pack.

But I understand that genetics play a role in personality traits.
The Pit Bulls now days were bred to be DA. I wish it weren't so,
but I am aware that that is part of their breed, and I'm willing
to work with it. I love those breeds no matter what, but I'm not
going to sugarcoat their temperaments <3

By snapping the mouth, you mean like just snapping it, not attempting to connect with skin right? Addie snaps her mouth just to make the sound and i guess to iniciate play lol, not to try to bite.

I'm sorry to hear that. Remy just snaps at the air and bites inanimate objects (pillows, blankets etc.) when he actually plays his bite inhibition is fantastic. I have no idea how we got to that point either. I think he trained himself lol. Hopefully the pix mix will learn soon ^^

Sorry I can't help you, I haven't had many nipping dogs. My youngest was a bit like that but the first time he got me pretty good I shrieked (because it hurt) and he was so shocked he didn't do it again. I've heard this encourages some dogs though, especially those with prey drive? Someone told me once they only use toys to play with puppies, and hands are only used for giving food/treats or patting the puppy when they are calm/sleepy. I've also read about a 'time out' scenario or turning away and stopping attention until the pup calms down.

I tried 'shrieking' when my Lola was a pup.
She just about torn my hand off
with excitement. Yeah, I didn't
do that again ^^;

The time out scenario seemed
to work. She loves human
interaction, so if I stood
up and walked away when she
nipped, she wouldn't nip! <3

I never said "I don't like being alled wrong". I'm not wrong. If I was, I'd have dogs like theirs.
I really don't care if I'm offending people with my beliefs. They are my beliefs and I'm entitled to them.
Do I really even need to just drop my beliefs and go with theirs? I could be like mean and have aggressive dogs Wow, that sounds GREAT!

Excuse me? So we're wrong because our dogs have flaws. Because they're DOGS. Anyone on here who happens to have taken on a dog who, despite their best efforts, has aggression issues. Or fear issues. Or ANY issue. Is automatically wrong and you're right. You know so much more. Your dogs are perfect. And you wonder why you are pissing off so many people. You'd think you'd take a hint when all but one or two people agree with you.

You are entitled to your opinion. But when said opinion is offensive, it is best kept to yourself. That is called maturity.

I am so done with you. I have been blunt yes but I have tried to remain civil and mature. But I am done. There's no point in talking to a brick wall. And if this thread gets locked it won't be a surprise why.
