Fuzzy, I hate to come back just to jump into an argument, but you really don't know nearly as much about dogs as Lupen, Cardi, Sara, Jazi, Malfoy, or even myself do. I've been in the dog world actively since I was 10 years old, researching and going to local agility trials and snapping up dogs breed books. I continued to upgrade my knowledge and get more involved as I aged. Now, 8 years later I'm in University for this stuff. I know about animal behaviour from a variety of sources, I'm a member of several different online groups about great danes and dog training, I'm in an agility club, Lucy is registered with the AAC, I'm applying for an AAC membership, I have trained dogs, cats, and my grandmothers parrot, as well as other friends dogs. I eat, sleep, and breath dogs. Lucy still has DA, but she's wonderfully trained and now non-reactive on walks because I continued to expand my knowledge and knew when to accept when I was wrong and take advice given to me, and I now have an amazing dog. Can she go off leash and play with other dogs? No. But can I walk her with my best friend and his lab mix? Yes! You are not a Lab, Cocker Spaniel, Papillon, or Akita expert or breeder, and you need to stop using your one dog of that breed as an example of what you believe breed norms to be. Go talk to a good, reputable Akita breeder about SSA in Akitas, and no, I don't consider Wolfgang's breeder to be a good breeder, their whole site and the lack of information turns me off of them in a hurry. I now consider myself to have a great deal of knowledge on Great Danes, but I have owned three danes over the course of almost 6 years, and in that time have talked to a variety of breeders, four different rescues, two different trainers who have danes, other dane owners, and several online groups. I know what is to be expected in Danes, and I know that none of my three danes are good examples of the breed, mainly because of Lucy's genetically defective colour (She was the only merle of the litter, and the breeder didn't know the mom could throw a merle out in a litter before hand) and her DA, and Lucky and Dirk were rescues with Entropion and HD, Lucky now has bone cancer and Dirk had a genetic heart condition. Does that make them bad dogs? No. My danes have been my heart and soul the past 6 years, it just means they had genetic conditions. Lucy is the reverse of what you're claiming Wolfgang to be. Akitas are genetically known to be SSA, but so far, Wolfgang is fine, he might always be fine, but in a year he might develope SSA because he is an Akita. Danes are known to have even, good temperaments. We went above and beyond with Lucy as a puppy, socializing her, and then around the 1 1/2 year old mark, she began developing DA for NO reason, with no signs prior to it that she had any problems, even though Danes are known to have a good, even temperament, doesn't mean there isn't a chance they will be SSA, DA, or HA. You need to learn how to just accept that others may be more educated on a topic than you.
Throw those hooves right over my shoulders
Cause I seen the way you look at me, doefriend, when you smoulder
Come here, queer deer, and shake that thing around
Cause you get me so high that I gotta go down
