Is it just me or does the numbers of cups you are feeding makes no since. With quality you are supposed to feed less, what the heck has bb done? I feed TOTW and its only 3 cups for a 90lb dog, but seeing as my old girl isnt active she gets 2. If you are feeding 5 plus a can you dog must be St. Bernard, really active as in running at least 3 miles a day, or very over weight.

EDIT
Saracirce, I feel your pain as for as owners not listening. I have a problem with my grandmother and her HA service dog, my aunt with her out of control english bulldog, and a friend with two border collies. Good lord Jesus I loved the collies, a blast to work with but sadly no one listened on how to fix the problem and are now 'rehoming' one. AKA putting on craigslist for any dog fighter to use as a bait dog.

I think it is just that way for puppies because he is growing very rapidly and needs the food. I'm not feeding a can, I'm feeding a spoonful of wet food daily for taste (I only do this because I brush his teeth daily, if I wasn't brushing them I wouldnt feed wet). The vet said Wolf is at a perfect weight for his age (6 months).

Even on the feed chart that is why to much. Even if a puppy is hungry you dont want to give him to much protein at once, it could seriously screw up its growth. That is a lot for a puppy, and from what you are saying that is a lot of weight to put on so quickly.

From what I've seen with other American Akitas, Wolf is in the perfect weight and size range. I met a few of the breeder's female pups when they were 6 months old before Wolf was born and he is a little bigger than they were then. From what I can see by his siblings' owners' Facebook pictures, he is the same size as his brothers. Our vet says his weight gain each months has been normal for the first 6 months. Addie was the same and gained 11 lbs every month for her first 6-7 months and then slowed down a bit. He actually doesn't act like he is starving or anything. He has always eaten slowly and sometimes doesn't finish his food. He had a growth spurt from 4-5 months and that was the only time he ate fast.

One time I was feeling creative, and I did bad. Lol, oops!

I was making a hot dog for myself and I sometimes will put in an extra one for Piper, too, and so I put one in and a brilliant idea struck! (I'm so bad lol).

I grabbed Piper's bowl, and then grabbed her her normal cup of dog food, then added in some tuna, cheese, chicken jerky, crust off the bread, ONE of her jerky treats, and then once the hot dogs were done I cut that up too and mixed it in.
All her favourite foods in one dish! Yummy!

I know I probably shouldn't have done that but I had a random moment of inspiration. Won't happen again, and not to mention, to thank me for making this wonderful meal for her, she rips up the newspaper!

Random question, what is it about your favorite breed that makes them your favorite?

American Akitas are of course my favorite breed. I love their huge size snow bulky they are, their up ears, their curled tails, the majority of them with their black masks, their hard bristley coats, the males' huge heads, their bear-like looks, their history, just the name Akita, and I like being able t prove t people that they aren't mean dogs.

FuzzyThePunkCat, my favorite breeds are
1) Golden retrievers, because they're so sweet and gentle and tolerant and affectionate. They really are amazing and my first dog was a golden named Maggie, she oassed away due to cancer though. A sad but common defect. But I really do adore their loving nature, and not to mention they are GORGEOUS.

2) pit bulls, because of their incredibly forgiving nature and resilience. I mean people have taken pits from fighting/backyard breeding situation and even though the dog is scared and usually injured, it alway finds a way to bounce back and I find that pretty inspiring considering what people put them through. There are of course the odd cases where the dog cant recover. But whose fault is that? certainly not the dogs. but anyways, I really do love pit bulls because theyre amazingly faithful and hopeful.

Boxers because they're clowns, protective, they wiggle their butts, are bouncy, they have really expressive faces, their size, they're a medium-energy breed, can make great family pets when properly bred and socialized, both toy and food driven, athletic, cuddly, velcro dogs.

Chesapeake Bay Retrievers because they're protective, fun but also serious, double coated, aloof with strangers, enjoy the water, can make excellent family pets, their size, athletic, the breed is generally healthy, cuddly.

Ibizan Hounds because I like the way they look (especially when fit), aloof with strangers, not protective, playful, athletic, the breed is generally healthy.

These are only the reasons I can really articulate well. There's more to it.

My 2 favorite breeds are:

1) Australian Shepherd. I love their energy level (weird, but I'm an athlete, so it works.) so I can do all sorts of fun sports with them, like agility, frisbee, ect. They are also just beautiful dogs, blue Merle with tan points have to be my favortie coat on Aussies <3 I also love their ability to herd, sure it can get annoying at times, but if you give them sheep to herd, it's quite entertaining for me, imo.

2) Leonbergers. I've come across them only recently, and still trying to learn more about them, but from what I've read they are just gentle giants. They are huge, and I like that! Big dogs are really my weakness <3 Sure, they may have lower energy levels than an Aussie, but I'm sure it would be fun to share a couch with one too (if they don't take up the whole space) they are just gentle dogs, and I adore that! Leonbergers with sable coats are just stunning, not to mention their coats are quite long and fluffy <3

(If I have any info on either breed wrong tell me please!)

I should also add that many Akitas enjoy water as well :) My hair dresser who thinks she knows everything about Akitas because she has Chows (hich makes no sense because they arent even similar breeds) was telling me he probably would hate water and I told her he loved water and she was like "what!?" and I tried to explain t her that Chows and Akitas aren't even close to similar. I'm sure there are Chows that like water anyway lol. Wolf's breeder said all of his Akitas love water.
