There's a new app called "vine," where you share short, six second videos, and I've seen far too many vines of people putting their phone close to a small dog's face, making it growl and laughing about it. If you wouldn't do it to a large dog you shouldn't do if to a small dog. There shouldn't be a double standard.

Once, I got bit by a large dog, and it gave me a black eye. I got scared.
Once, I got bit by a small dog, and it tore off a bit of my finger. I got scared.

There most definitely should not be a double standard, because dogs are dogs no matter what.
And small dogs, though obviously not all the time, tend to be more aggressive simply because people allow them to be.

I agree. I've never been bitten by a dog, but my little sister and my best friend have been.
My best friend was bitten on her leg by a Beagle when we were volunteering at the shelter. His name was Elmo. We had been helping to take care of Elmo for almost a month and he was always friendly and never seemed to show any signs of aggression. He was on a tye out and we were standing near him petting him. I pet him and he was fine and I kind of started walking away. Then my best friend went up (not paying attention to his body language at all) and went to pet him while other volunteers were taking out his usual cagemate from one of the dog runs and he started going ballistic barking trying to get to her (possibly out of jealousy). Then he suddenly turned on her and ripped off a huge chunk of her sweat pants and left a bite on her leg. The other volunteers looked, but did nothing. She told the workers and they did nothing. Her mom went in and reported it to the shelter owner and she said she would put it on his records, yet they never put any kinds of warning on his dog run or anything (they had warnings on dogs' runs who weren't even aggressive just because of their breed in some). Apparently it didn't go on his record and they adopted him into a family with a young child and guess what, he bit her. They got rid of him and idk what happened to him then.
My sister was bitten by my grandmother's Yorkie, Spencer. This was a while ago when she was like 5 or 6. My grandfather was alive then too. Since they refused to fix their dogs since they wanted to breed them (which resulted very badly, but that's another story) their Shih Tzu, Willow was in heat. Spencer was like guarding her, yet they still allowed my little sister around the dogs and barely payed attention. She went to pet Willow and he bit her. They did nothing about it other then say "no Spencer, bad dog" very half-heatedly and swat at him with a rolled up newspaper. They continued to let her be around him and I think he but her again on her hand again not long afterwards. She still allows him around small kids unsupervised and acted like it was nothi when it happened.
My grandmother's boyfriend's Bichon and Bichon Dachshund mix tried to attack my sister multiple times in our own house, yet they did nothing but say no again very half heatedly from across the room. He didn't even bother to get up. They also tried to attack my best friend, but they left me to hold me back. Once again IN MY OWN HOUSE WHILE THEY WERE STAYING WITH US yet they just left them and acted like it was no big deal.
I just can't stand when people do that, if it were a big dog it'd be a HUGE deal and e dog would probably have been destroyed. It just is not fair at all.

If you guys were looking to board your dogs, what would be some key 'selling' points?

This dog. I swear.

If I'm on the main floor at the same time Lolita is, she'll refuse to let anyone else carry her upstairs. She will literally just stand there shaking, ears pinned back and tail tucked. She will pit her weight against anyone trying to pick her up. So I'll finally give in just to get it over with. Soon as I walk to the stairs, she'll run over with her tail wagging and practically jump into my arms all like 'yay! it's time to go upstairs! I love upstairs! Upstairs is the bestest!'

I'm pretty sure it's because my mom has dropped Lolita a couple times (on accident of course) but it's not like I haven't tripped down the stairs at least once while carrying her. Shawn's also never dropped her.

And it's kinda funny how they literally have to drag her out of her bed to get her to go out and all I have to do is beckon to her and walk towards the top of the stairs.

@Fuzzy: That story with the beagle. That sounds like classic redirected leash aggression/frustration. He just really wanted to get to his friend and see them but he was frustrated because the leash was holding him back so he redirected onto the closest living thing. It actually isn't that uncommon a problem in high drive breeds.

Talking about people teasing dogs
Afew people would tease my partners English x neo threw the fence when he was barking at them
I even saw a man checking the water mains outside our house bark back at him
WTH? Yer lets entice a dog almost the same height as the fence that's standing between you and him
Ofcourse he then started barking more aggressively and the guy backed off.
I don't understand what goes threw peoples heads to feel the need to bark back a dog?
'I don't like it barking at me so I'll bark back at it'
What would it accomplish?

I have a place that you can click onto their online website and punch in a user name and password and will pull up the screen to your dogs kennel. Will only pull up your dog if you have the user name and password they gave you, they change it for every costumer. That way if you were an old costumer you cant sign in to see someone else dog later on. The smell of the place is a major factor and tells me that they dont clean often, if I walk into a kennel or grooming area and it has this funk moldy poop smell I leave.
How often do the dogs get messed with is a major factor, and I dont mean let them out on the grass or with other dogs. I mean human interaction, because I tell them regardless of anything else I dont trust other peoples dogs. Not to let them near mine, and I do find out if my dog has been interacting with other dogs I show my butt big time. Yelling, and will go everywhere to ensure that a lot of people wont board with them anymore. For if I cant trust them on that simple task, how can I trust them with something important like meds.

I had people do that with my bullmastiff, and what stopped them is when she would literally go through the fence. We got a white plastic fence and she would push a slat out and scare the living crap out of them.

May I ask when you guys think it's best to get a dog spayed? She's 18 weeks old this Friday and we own a male dog so we don't want to take the risk. We hear people say to let her have her first heat but then our vet said to do it as soon as possible because it cuts down their risk of having feminine issues like cancer in the overys, but they have never owned a female dog, so I was wondering when any of you got your dog spayed? I want what's best for her as I don't want it getting done too early and ruining her heath now and as she grows up. :c
Thank you for any help in regards to this.

Later the better! Most people wait until the dog is at least 18 months to spay. the reason for waiting is so the body can fully develop, growth plates can close at the right time, and the hormones can do their work. When you fix a dog early those hormones are taken away and the dog won't grow to their full potential. Yes, spaying early will lower the chances of canter in the overys, but the disadvantages have a greater chance of coming up. Here is an easy read about it. There are a lot, more, but I am wiped out and don't have the energy needed to go though and look them all up http://www.petsadviser.com/vet/pros-con ... -your-dog/
Maybe after a long nap I will...or maybe a "long nap" will turn into going to bed for the night lol

I've found the perfect thing to keep my dog tired indoors :'D
So you know those big tubes for posters? Well this one is a wallscroll tube and its cardboard. I put the end on my mouth and blow through it and make the "phbt" noise you make to play a trumpet- it makes her run around the house like a crazy maniac and I'm NOT kidding you.
Now she's just resting on the kitchen floor. She's definitely tired out. XD

I'm of the mindset that pediatric spay/neuter is an abomination. :/ Comes with a whole slew of other issues like improper growth and even some behavioral issues.

I'll be waiting until atleast the 18 month mark with my lady. You can always call around and see if any vets in your area with sterilize her and not do a full spay. Sterilization in female dogs allows them to go into heat and have all the beneficial hormones, but not be able to produce puppies. It's something we're also considering.
