There's a new app called "vine," where you share short, six second videos, and I've seen far too many vines of people putting their phone close to a small dog's face, making it growl and laughing about it. If you wouldn't do it to a large dog you shouldn't do if to a small dog. There shouldn't be a double standard.
Once, I got bit by a large dog, and it gave me a black eye. I got scared.
Once, I got bit by a small dog, and it tore off a bit of my finger. I got scared.
There most definitely should not be a double standard, because dogs are dogs no matter what.
And small dogs, though obviously not all the time, tend to be more aggressive simply because people allow them to be.
I agree. I've never been bitten by a dog, but my little sister and my best friend have been.
My best friend was bitten on her leg by a Beagle when we were volunteering at the shelter. His name was Elmo. We had been helping to take care of Elmo for almost a month and he was always friendly and never seemed to show any signs of aggression. He was on a tye out and we were standing near him petting him. I pet him and he was fine and I kind of started walking away. Then my best friend went up (not paying attention to his body language at all) and went to pet him while other volunteers were taking out his usual cagemate from one of the dog runs and he started going ballistic barking trying to get to her (possibly out of jealousy). Then he suddenly turned on her and ripped off a huge chunk of her sweat pants and left a bite on her leg. The other volunteers looked, but did nothing. She told the workers and they did nothing. Her mom went in and reported it to the shelter owner and she said she would put it on his records, yet they never put any kinds of warning on his dog run or anything (they had warnings on dogs' runs who weren't even aggressive just because of their breed in some). Apparently it didn't go on his record and they adopted him into a family with a young child and guess what, he bit her. They got rid of him and idk what happened to him then.
My sister was bitten by my grandmother's Yorkie, Spencer. This was a while ago when she was like 5 or 6. My grandfather was alive then too. Since they refused to fix their dogs since they wanted to breed them (which resulted very badly, but that's another story) their Shih Tzu, Willow was in heat. Spencer was like guarding her, yet they still allowed my little sister around the dogs and barely payed attention. She went to pet Willow and he bit her. They did nothing about it other then say "no Spencer, bad dog" very half-heatedly and swat at him with a rolled up newspaper. They continued to let her be around him and I think he but her again on her hand again not long afterwards. She still allows him around small kids unsupervised and acted like it was nothi when it happened.
My grandmother's boyfriend's Bichon and Bichon Dachshund mix tried to attack my sister multiple times in our own house, yet they did nothing but say no again very half heatedly from across the room. He didn't even bother to get up. They also tried to attack my best friend, but they left me to hold me back. Once again IN MY OWN HOUSE WHILE THEY WERE STAYING WITH US yet they just left them and acted like it was no big deal.
I just can't stand when people do that, if it were a big dog it'd be a HUGE deal and e dog would probably have been destroyed. It just is not fair at all.
