Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:
Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.
Love, Meredith.

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it.Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope. Because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office.

A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had. Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, "To Meredith" in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it.Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, "When a Pet Dies." Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:
Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away. Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.
Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I am wherever there is love.
Love, God

That was beautiful. <3
Even though i'm an Atheist, I have to say that whoever did that was amazing.

    { Yes, that is absolutely beautiful. Brought a tear to my eye, and I'm an atheist.

So, I just found this picture of Clemmy with her favorite indoor toy which is actually supposed to be a cat toy on my mom's facebook page.

Image

Imagine seeing this when ever Clemmy wants to play inside. Yep. That's my Clementurd.

EDIT: Oh, and here's Loli:

For most of the day nearly every day, that's all you'll see of her. Her head poking out of some fluffy blanket :roll:
"Only ignorance! Only ignorance! How can you talk about only ignorance? Don't you know that it is the worst thing in the world, next to wickedness? - and which does the most mischief, heaven only knows. If people can say 'Oh! I did not know, I did not mean any harm,' they think it is all right."

I saw that on fb, it made me tear up <3

The food topic: I feed Sophie 1/3 of a cup twice a day, she is doing really well on it.

~~~~~
I have a question (especially for Cardinal and Jazi since they are the two who I have heard them talk about eggs), I have heard a lot of people on here saying they feed their dogs one raw egg a day. What is the benefit of that and are there any things I should be concerned/risks if I would feed Sophie one. Are the shells okay to eat?
~~~~~~
also a few fun pictures of Sophie

Theres a lot of silliness where eggs are concerned, some people are completely against them while others are all for them. You know where I stand, hopefully. ;) One one hand, raw eggs have a substance in the called Avidin which binds biotin and renders it useless. However, eggs also have a wonderful amount of biotin which compensates for the amount that gets bound.. ;) I see no issue feeding raw eggs whenever. Shell and all. The shell is great calcuim, but sometimes dogs wont eat them.. Just depends on the dog. =) Lucky does, Juniper only nibbles at them. If the avidin weirds you out, poaching them for a few second in the microwave will take away that concern as cooking them nix's the avidin issue.

Eggs are literal powerhouses. They contain loads of healthy protein, fats, vitamins. They can do wonders for a coat, thats the main reason I feed them. Cracking open an egg is also a mental excersize, and highly amusing to watch.

Some dogs are weird and won't eat a part of the egg, like the shell or yolk, and others won't crack them themselves. Skoll was a garbage disposal with the mentality of "if it fits in my mouth I eat it", but wouldn't crack his own eggs. To introduce him to the concept, after seeing that he wouldn't crack his own eggs I'd crack them for him and smush the shell into tiny pieces and put it in his bowl of food. He was getting 1.5 cups + water + egg in that bowl, mind. As he got the idea that he should eat all of the egg, not just the guts, I started just cracking the egg and leaving the shell on top. Often times, he'd dig up the shell to eat it first anyway. I also gave him the shells whenever I made scrambled eggs for myself, he loved them!

Eggs are a huge powerhouse of nutrients and I started the eggs because he had really bad dander that I just couldn't get rid of. With the good food combined with the egg, his coat was beginning to soften and shine without the itch or dander.

How often should a raw egg be fed? I've heard once a week, twice a week and even every single day.. Personally I've given it to them about once a week or so. Just wondering if I should feed it more often.

And I was looking back at some of my posts from five plus years ago on another website, about Dogs and such. So embarrassing... Asking about stuff like whether beneful is a good brand or not, or how to potty train a pup in the best way possible. I still have my questions, as evident by this post but at least I've got everything down for the most part. I just feel bad for my dogs back then, lol.

I did daily, and likely will again with whatever pup comes my way. I might actually do two daily, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, after seeing the benefits I had with Skoll. It depends on the individual dog and also what else you're feeding- eggs are nice for dogs with digestive issues (like Skoll) because they're nutrient-heavy but still really easy to digest which means the nutrients are being absorbed and not flushed through the system with a tummyache... Skoll had a lot of tummy issues so egg was always on my mind to start him on, and it worked out well. The added calcium helped firm up his poop too.

Now for dogs that are weird about eggs, you all should see Mocha when presented with a whole egg. She doesn't crack them... she rolls on them. *facepalm*

On the whole egg chat, I give Tally (my JRT) a egg every now and then, but I didn't know they could eat the shells. I always though that it'd mess with their throat or something
