The Kaytee Rabbit Home isn't enough space for a guinea pig. The measurements are of the outside of the cage, meaning inside measurements (The space they actually have to run) is likely much smaller and not the bare minimum of 7.5 feet squared. Guinea pigs need space to run, so levels and ramps don't count in the total running space they need, in fact ramps actually lower the amount of space.

All of my pigs hate baths with a passion, though Godric is the easiest to bath because she's so scared she just freezes instead of trying to jump out. Ro Dah and her mother Fus on the other hand both are little devils when I have to give them baths, I always end up with scratches all over my hands and arms, I've been asked if I got attacked by cats and I'm like "Nope, just two Guinea Pigs"

Going to add more cubes to Dash's cage ready for when we get more. Can only add one more x2 bit and we'll have to climb over the bed to get to the window :P We already have to climb over the cage to get through the door. Oh piggies <3
You cannot eat love, nor buy a horse with it, nor warm your halls on a cold night

A chance to spread guinea pig love via a forum?
Count me in!

I only recently got my first guinea pig after losing my two gerbils.
Sadly, when I first got her, she was in a litter of pups that was apparently far too young and that had managed to catch a chill. She was one of the few in the litter that was treated in time, but she's now on a lifetime double vitamin C supplement. Nothing too bad considering she's healthy as a horse (or pig) now.

And here she is, the lovely Indie ~

It's been a couple months since then and she's gotten bigger, squeakier, and shows more personality than I thought possible for a medium sized rodent. She enjoys typing on my laptop when I turn my back, sleeping on top of her house, and curling up on my pillow to watch netflix with me. The only show she pays attention to is Futurama though.

I took out one of the second level ramps, so there is only one.

First time guinea pig owner.. Maybe. Could use some pointers

Postby Saphira001 » Tue Apr 23, 2013 1:30 pm

Im thinking about getting my first guinea pig and I could use some pointers. What is the best cage for a guinea pig? Should I get more then one piggy? Is there anything I should stay away from while looking for guinea pig supplies?

This is the cage I have been looking at for a while: http://www.guineapigcagesstore.com/candc-cage-covered-deluxe-narrow-medium#.UXXkbmt5mK2
What do you guys think about this one? I have a crappy paying job so it can't be overly expensive.

I'm looking for any and all information I can get on being a first time guinea pig mommy! Any help would be great! Thank you guys in advance!

I do have cats and dogs. Will this be a problem? Will the dogs or cats scare the poor piggies?
My Dreamies!

Also the malk flame wolves and the August PPS lion and the July lion! Thanks so much to ~Garnet~ for gifting me my white kitsune dreamie!

How many guinea pigs do you think could stay in this? Ignore the cord and hamster poop lol.

That looks like a pretty good cage. You should have at least 2 piggies because they are "herd" animals. Stay away from pine or cedar bedding and make sure they have hay at least once a day.
