Pitbulls

Personality

Pitbulls have been given a bad rep they are actually very eager to please, loving, loyal, sweet and intellegent dogs. Pitbulls are not born aggressive, it is the way they are brought up which shapes their personality. The pitbull is a dog that can snap so is not a dog for everyone. Pitbulls need early socialisation and socialisation throught out their life to make them comfortable and friendly with people and dogs.

Looks

Pitbulls have a broad chisseled head, a strong body packed with muscles and amazing jaw strengh. People say that pitbulls' jaws lock but actually they don't however they have a tendancy to bite and hold on.

How they were made

Pitbulls were made by crossing the bull dog with terriers. They were called pitbulls because people used to put them in pits and made them fight. (Still happens illegally today)

Where they are banned

They are banned in Denver, parts of Florida, Great Britain and New Zealand. Some airlines have them grounded and not allowed to ride

Also...

Pitbulls have been used in things like..

Peedy in little rascals
Buster browns shoe dog

Also they are known as America's dog.

They are bred to be dog/animal aggressive/reactive/intolerant. Choose your word. However, the same traits that make them intolerant of other animals also makes them wonderful family dogs. They are intelligent, aim to please, and are general goof-balls with their families. They excel in all kinds of sports from agility to weight pulling to dock diving to flyball and frisbee. They make wonderful service animals and therapy dogs.

I may or may not own one in the future, depends on if I can find a good breeder whose dogs are not dog reactive. I do plan to own other dogs and having a dog reactive dog wouldn't work. ;D

Ohio? Um.. no. Their not banned here. They took pits off the vicious dog list awhile ago.

I'm adopting one soon. Well, a mix... {Boxer/pit} and her sidekick {a staffy} they are very sweet dogs. People train them to be human/dog aggressive. My friend owns a pit and he's so sweet. He wouldn't hurt a fly.

Banned in a lot of states**

For one, I don't think there is anywhere in the United States where pitbulls are COMPLETELY banned throughout the whole state.

A lot of cities have restrictions, though.

Pitties and other bully breeds definitely are misunderstood dogs. They can be very sweet and gentle, but they need the proper amounts of training and socialization for it's breed.

That being said, I also feel that, in some ways, pitts are way over-rated. I've seen tons of people, not necessarily on this site, who are ALL for pitts and other bully breeds and saying how great they are, and yet they bash on other breeds like Chow Chows, GSDs, and Dobes and give them the same unfair stereotypes that they try to dispel on pitts.

I also personally don't think I will own a bully breed (cept maybe a Bull Terrier xP). I have nothing against bully breeds themselves, I just personally don't like the look of a pitt or other bullys, just not my cup of tea ;3

Anyway, it really depends on the owner, but the pitbulls i've met are very sweet. They are just misunderstood.

The tendency towards dog agression is inherent.

I love pitbulls, but it does take a special and experienced dog owner to have one. It's true some pitbulls are trained to fight, but it's not the breed themselves, it's the people who train them that make or brake the dog. But since many people who are uneducated about the breed and here on the news that "pitbulls attacked person." or something of there abouts they think the whole breed is bad. Since I saw that my city does not have a pitbulls ban or anything, I hope to own one once I can provide the time and space for the dog :)
