Leptoglossus occidentalis, Western conifer seedbug. I think.

I found this guy in my dog's water bowl. Took him out, ID'd him, snapped some pictures. I'm going to let him go soon.

And then I was brave enough to let him crawl on my hand. :3

I've been finding those around my house lately! I was wondering what they were because I've never seen them before! Weird.

I've never seen one before either, and I had a hard time ID'ing this guy because I couldn't find him on the colorado invert website. It seems like they're pretty widespread, though.
Aaaand these bugs can fly. He's been spreading his wings like he's going to, and because I have a hatred for inverts that fly, I'm releasing him much sooner than expected.

Yeah. They're not supposed to be in my state either, which is probably why I couldn't id them and my friend, who was born here, doesn't know what they are. I've never seen them fly but I feel you xD

Aaand little guy's free to go wherever now. I let him go, but it's cold outside so he'll probably come back in.. hopefully in one of the other apartments in this building.
Dislike of flying bugs came from when a freaking enormous grasshopper jumped on my face. Not fun, not fun.. heh.
I don't think these guys are native to everywhere in North America, quickly skimmed Wikipedia and it says they're originally found on the Pacific coast but spread east, and they're considered a pest species.

I've seen buggies kind of like this in our horse's water tubs, very occasionally. They look like little swimming beetles. o.O

They do look very similar, but compare the kissing bug's last legs to the seedbug's(or squash bug, that's another name). They're different. Also, with a quick google images search, kissing bugs have more orange stripes that are shaped a little differently, and they seem to be darker colored than this guy's mainly brown body.

I've gotten good at picking out specific traits that make a species unique, don't worry about me, I wouldn't hold something with my hands unless I was completely sure about what it is.

Geh. Told ze mom I rescued it and she was like 'ew why didn't you smash it'.. D:
