Should I get a rabbit?

Postby Chronicillness » Tue Nov 27, 2012 11:16 am

I had a rabbit that I loved dearly but unfortunately my 'grandparents' killed him. I moved shortly after that so now I am living with my grandmother who LOVES animals. I am dying for a rabbit. I honestly don't know if we can afford to take it to the vet if something happens. I currently have a robo dwarf hamster, a rat (my sister also has one), and 3 dogs. When I had my baby Jack, we were inseparable. I just want that feeling back. He was everything to me. Anyways, aside from the sob story lol. Please give opinions. They would be greatly appreciated! :D I DO KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF A RABBIT. I HAVE OWNED RABBITS BEFORE.

This is not what it is, only baby scars. I need your love like a boy needs his mother's side. ♫♪

Can you hear the silence? Can you see the dark? Can you fix the broken? Can you feel my heart? ♥

What if I can't forget you? I'll burn your name into my throat, I'll be the fire that'll catch you!! ♥

If you can't afford vet care, then no. Simple as that.

You admitted yourself you weren't sure if you'd have the money for vet care. :/ Don't be selfish and get an animal you can't afford that will ultimately suffer. Be responsible.

That was rude.

Hey, leave her alone. She wants to offer a loving pet a new chance at a great home, and all you can do is put her down? Shame on both of you

But no, let them get an animal and then said animal get sick and suffers. Animals are /expensive/ and they do get sick. Not to mention exotic vets are expensive. But shame on me for caring more for their future pet then their feelings on the matter.

She asked for opinions, and she is getting opinions. Agree to disagree, but you shouldn't be telling others what to do. =/

Honestly, if you're not sure if you can afford vet care, I would say a rabbit isn't a good choice, or getting any other pets at this moment. You already have several pets- what if they get sick? I hope you have enough saved up for them in case of emergencies. Wait until you're able to get a job or your family is doing better financially before buying/adopting another pet. It's what is fair to the animal.

Do you have the space for a rabbit, seeing as how you have hamsters, rats, and dogs? Rabbits need a nice, large cage if they're not free range, and most pet stores don't sell big enough cages for rabbits. My guinea pig's cage is bigger than any rabbit cage I've ever seen in pet stores, and I still feel as if her cage is a tad cramped.

If you cannot afford vet care, then I wouldn't say you should.

Rabbits are expensive and take a lot of time, dedication, etc. Rabbits are not a cheap animal, either. You need timothy hay, good quality timothy pellets, and veggies for your rabbit. Not to mention a proper housing system(indoor housing is the best outdoor housing allows your rabbit risk of parasites), toys for mental stimulation, etc.

I would say no. You already stated you can't afford the vet and you already have other pets.

Yeah if you can't afford to take it to the vet then don't get one. >:
Vet care is an important part of having a pet. Don't take the chance that it'll suffer needlessly because you can't afford to take care of it properly.
You cannot eat love, nor buy a horse with it, nor warm your halls on a cold night
