Q: How did humans first discover horses? : Horses were found in cave drawings as early as 30,000 BC, but were likely hunted as sources of meat. Some of the earliest records of domesticated horses are by the people of the Eurasian steppes, who still depend on the horse today. By 2000 BC, they were being used as beasts of burden and to pull war chariots. Around this time, the use of horses spread east into China and west into Mesopotamia.
Modern horses likely descend from partly domesticated animals, which apparently disappeared from the Americas but survived in Eurasia. They were re-introduced in the New World by Spanish explorers in the 1500's.
