Whats wrong with Mr.Kitten?

Postby Rouzani » Thu Nov 22, 2012 2:25 pm

    on Tuesday I bought a three month old kitten from some guy who said it was healthy and all but i dont think it is?

    tuesday;
    constant hissing and scratching when i would go near it. it ran around like he was on fire (until he hit a mirror) and tried to escape. i noticed he has terrible diarrhea and very dirty claws. he "cries" in the middle of the night against a window.
    wednesday(today);
    he wont stop crying and flopping around the floor. he no longer fights when i approach him. he wont use the litter-box and urinates on himself. when i clean him and he wont react to the water!

    we took him to the vet around 3:30 and should pick him up in a week or two.

    what do you think is wrong with him?

    edit; there were five other kittens and his mother present when i picked him up. is this just kitty-depression?

Just because someone SAYS an animal is healthy doesn't mean they necessarily are. Anytime you get an animal from someone, you should ask to see their medical records. And even if they do have the right medical records, you should take them to the vet immediately just in case.

And no, whatever is going on with your kitten is definitely NOT normal (if it had been normal, your vet would have told you so). I can't tell you what it is or even begin to guess what's wrong with him but I'm sure the vet is doing his best to help him. What did the vet say it was?
"Only ignorance! Only ignorance! How can you talk about only ignorance? Don't you know that it is the worst thing in the world, next to wickedness? - and which does the most mischief, heaven only knows. If people can say 'Oh! I did not know, I did not mean any harm,' they think it is all right."

    @saracirce
    i know to get medical papers for dogs, but i never knew it applied to cats as well. for some reason i always see them happy and purring.

    we haven't gotten any information yet(other than the drop-off fee -_-;). we just dropped him off.

    @evergreen
    i will try to remember.

    @Dinoroar
    thank you

Sounds like distemper to me, which is very very bad for such a young kitten. Good luck, hoping it's nothing.

Next time you want a kitten or other animal make sure you get one from a reputable source. They will be able to guarantee that their animals are 100% healthy for you.

If your other cats are up to date on shots they should be fine. If not I suggest taking them in as well for a check up.
