Dog years!

Postby Pastasquid » Mon Nov 19, 2012 12:56 am

Is this correct...

When a dog is 5 years old, it is 35 in human years

Meaning that the five years is the dog years and the 35 is human years

Or...

When a dog is 5 years old, it's 35 in dog years.

Meaning the 5 years is the human years and the 35 is dog years.

I think it's the first one but I want to be sure :D

Can anyone help?

I think you're remembering incorrectly. Dogs don't live to be 35 human years, so it must be: A dog that's 5 human years is 35 dog years old. But that's not really accurate, either, because some breeds can live 20 years on average while others live 5 on average. Different breeds age at different rates, so there's not really a standard way to convert every breed's age between human and dog years.

But when a dog is 5 , then it is the equivalent of a 35 year old human, so human years :)

No, it's not. "Dog years" is a myth, as different breeds have very different lifespans. Some might live into their late teens, while others only live to be 7. A 5 year old dog is just a 5 year old dog. There is no standard way to say how old that dog is relative to a human.
