This is why outdoor cats are bad.

In any case, either put it back if the nest isn't disturbed too much, or take it to a wildlife rehab.

If you actually try keeping it, care probably is pretty similar to other small pet rodents (everything im seeing is showing voles as being pretty adaptable), except it likely won't ever be anywhere near tame. Shorter lifespan too.

If you were to keep it do some research... I think they like worms, I had a vole/shrew/mole before and he died when I came home, sadly I guess the cats had hurt him too much. ):

Did it have food? Shrews can starve to death in 5 hours.

Let it go. No animal will kill it if it has human scent on it, they release animals all the time and they are fine. For one voles are solitary animals so it's family will not kill it.

My Dad got it some dirt pretty sure including worms, but like I said my cats could've like traumatized it.
