Piaffe; congrats on your new future horse! As opal nicely said, if recommend either an Oldenburg or a Dutch. They're more versatile. The only thing I've noticed is that most of the Dutch warm bloods I've met are shy and reserved and the oldies are more friendly and outgoing but that's just the few I've met. It depends on the horses personality and skill from here I think!

J e n n y wrote:Hey you guys! I am J e n n y and I don't ride horses... YET. I am trying to convince my mother to get me one.. I am not sure though. We are on the borders of the city and country line (In the city technically) and I was wondering... how much in USD would JUST a horse cost? (Already trained for riding) Not the hay, saddle, etc. Just the horse. Any ideas?

Depends on where your getting it from. Some cost a TON of money, but those are normally due to there breeding and such, But others can cost as low as a few hundred. Cisco was only $200, but some adoption agencies will cost even less. But remember a horse costs alot of money each month after bought not including the expensive tack, and you have to ride them almost every day to keep them fit and healthy or at least go out to see them. They are a big expensive responsibility XD but they are worth it if you pick the right horse for you. With the experience you have though, i may not run out and buy a horse, they are alot more work than you may think and you may get bored of them etc. If i were you, i would try a lease horse first. That way you know you will be committed to taking care of a horse. Good luck either way though!

Last show of this circuit tomorrow guys! I hope I can make it count!!!

Well so I took Oreo to horse 4h tonight. As you guys may or may not know, he hasn't been ridden in about a year. Well he has alway been a little sketchy in an indoor arena but he wasn't too bad tonight. First off though, the poor guy had probably over 50 ticks on him. We got all we could off and treated him, but he still has about 8 or so on each side of his sheath. And he starts cow kicking if you reach over there, which I don't blame him. So we are spraying him everyday with some tick killer now. Anyway, he also has a big cut on his front left heel, which we also treated. He's fine on it though and it wa mostly healed, it was scanned over and looked old but the scab was cracking so we just applied some medication that moistens it up and heals it. Anyway, it was light riding for him tonight as like I said he hasn't been ridden in about a year. It was pretty fun really. Well, for me it was. He always has this problem in indoors where he kind of zig zags back and forth across it, it's literally impossible to keep him going straight. Anyway, I walked and trotted him then have him a break and rode Queso throughout the meeting. After the meeting I switched back to Oreo and I tried loping him and he got pretty bronky hahaha. He bucked almost everytime I loped him hahaha. I took card of him though, just rode it out and kept his head up. The problem with him is though he just needs more work steering, he only knows direct right now. And even then he isn't the best, so loping a circle was out. He is just so big and long strides that you can lope for like 10 seconds an you'll be at the other end of the arena and our county arena is HUGE. So with minimal steering it was hard to really lope him enough to get the buck out of him. I need to take him on the range and really let him loose and see what he has. Get the bronkiness out of him before my sister rides him.

So anyway, my night was definitely exciting hahahaha
There's something to be said for a place that hasn't had all the rough rode out of it.

I know this is a weird question but.. do you know HorseRider1012? Just asking because you guys ride horses in the same discipline, with the same name and same description. I just thought that was really coincidental. xD

I leave for Michigan tomorrow! I'm excited to ride my cousins horse and go out to her barn, but I'm also a little sad that I won't see Poco for a week. It's not very good timing either, with our show coming up in August. :/

My pony and I got our first 1st place! well, not our very first, I won 4-H Champion in Showmanship(got a big shiny buckle) so this is our first 1st place in a ridding event. I was at a Gymkhana Show today and I got 3rd place in quadrangle and 1st in pole bending, I don't know what I got for key hole(my pony was scared of the chalk XD) and I got bucked off during hurry-scurry. I'm fine though, the dirt was soft. i was trying to keep her at a lope when we did hurry-scurry, so she could pace herself over the jumps, but she decided to gallop and it all went to hell from there.

@BayloneRose

Sounds similar to my lesson today (;
I was having trouble getting my horse to canter so when I used the crop he got all fussy and tried to buck. After that though his canter was perfect. WAS. He gets really excited after jumps, so he started getting speedy gradually. At the end we did a bounce, which he jumped in one jump (Too excited) but his canter was still controllable. At the very end, last time doing the bounce, I asked for the canter and he just took off. Having been the OTTB he is, he went back into his racing days with me basically being pulled around the arena. Surprisingly, I didn't fall. After I got off, I realized, that was kind of fun! Of course after that I just got off and walked him around as he was too excited.

I'm riding tomorrow :3 I'm super excited! I worked today and I can't wait to get paid xD even though it won't be much yet. You got to make tons of sales to get good hours. Hopefully I start to get a lot of sales soon! I'm hoping to ride Havanna or Phin tomorrow. I'm really sad though :/
I am supposed to show later this month. But my parents informed me this morning it may not happen because we are low on cash. I'm really hoping I can at least show once before the show season is over :s

Ok guys, I'm so so sorry that I've been away for so long. I've been so busy with Gem and the farm.
Let's see...
We've done a bunch of hunter shows. Still improving but just not placing. I mean, I like it when I can get last in every class and get Reserve Champion. But there is no way for me to win on Gem in Hunters against an A rated pony. We're about half way through the season or so on this local circuit. We're in second for our 2'9 division and like fourth or so for our 2'6 division.

I took Gem to a jumper show the other week and we're switching over to that. We actually did rather well for it being the first time for both of us. We got 6th in Optimum Time (I went way too fast), 5th in the Timed Jump Off and 3rd in the Speed Class against 10 other horses that strictly do that, that was the 2' division. Gem even did a little hop at the end of the speed class as if she was saying 'mommy! I did it!!'. In 2'6 we didn't place in OT because we had a refusal, it was a one stride line with a huge long spot to the second jump and we didn't have enough going into the line to make it. Then in the Jump Off I got lost (for the first time ever) and in the Speed class we got 5th against another 10 horses.
The judge loved her though! After my second course they stopped me in the ring to say how good it was. Then they later walked up to me and told me that she was their favourite. Everyone was surprised that it was our first time. We even looked like jumpers. I had on a purple helmet and polo and Gem had her purple bonnet, saddle pad and tail extensions along with a purple crop, which she didn't need.
The reason we went to this Jumper show was because last time she didn't get to school her ring she totally freaked out. Started refusing jumps, then galloped and tried jumping the ring fence twice, was rearing and then jumped a jump sideways. So I took her to this show to see how she'd be. Considering she only hesitated at the first fence and that was it, I was super proud. We didn't even get in a good warm up, just trotted and cantered then popped over two jumps in the Hunter ring.
So I was super proud of my little pony <3 We just need to find more Jumper shows around here.

She has been doing very well. She's finally collecting up her canter and using impulsion instead of speed. She's been getting her flying lead changes almost every time recently. They're for sure 'flying' lead changes as she jumps about two feet into the air to do them. It's hilarious to watch. We're probably going to take her to a fun little Western show since she kicked butt at the last one. Also will probably start taking dressage lessons then maybe bringing her to them. She supposedly knows dressage, which you can tell. She is giving me the most beautiful collected sitting trot and collected canter and when she frames up she tucks in, which is why the hunter judges don't like her, instead of out for hunters.
I don't really know what else has been going on with us. She's been super good besides her little bathing accident which left us with a broken halter (she snapped the noseband) and half of her face missing hair (the halter metal twisted/bent and shaved it off). Of course all this happening the day of the show, which was terrifying. But besides that things have been pretty good with us.

I'm still riding Timm and a few of the other training ponies. I'm also riding my friend's pony Belle and I finally got on her huge 17.1 OTTB. I was too afraid to walk him before (seen him act up pretty bad) but I finally trotted him around. Belle is super fun, super hard to ride but so rewarding when she does something right or doesn't take off with you.

There's nothing better than laying on your horse and looking at the stars. That's what I'm doing right now. I love the bond I have with my boy <3

Hey everyone! Update from my side!

So, Sizzle is back from lease! He was a good boy, but his leaser just wasn't advanced enough to ride a green broke horse. So, my little pocket pony is back! I'm really happy, I missed him XD It also means I still have a chance of showing him in Hunter Eq. (Flat) classes in the late summer! So, to prepare, I've been riding JJ english to get my huntseat eq. back on track (really mostly to strecth out my heels which have tightened back up after vacation and what not). I regret nothing. I really do miss english all the time and the last few rides have been the most fun in /months/. JJ has been great and we've also been working on him not putting his head up at the extended trot, stopping square, trot-halt transitions and both stirrupless and standing in the stirrups work for me.
The lady I'm trying to get dressage lessons from still hasn't called back...I'm about ready to give up on her and continue searching. If she isn't motivated enough to pursue the opportunity to gain a new, paying customer then so be it.
One of the ladies from my barn who owns a saddlebred and shows saddleseat got CHAMPION at her last show out of a 15 horse class! We're all so proud of her, and she's one of the nicest people I know. Her horse, Calloway, is a /total/ sweetheart too. He carries around and listens to her 4 year old daughter :3
I also got a new polo today from PoloRalphLauren! (Excuse iPad selfie xD)
