@Hime:
omg, he's so freaking adorable!<3 Being a chestnut wouldn't be a downside for me, I love chestnuts! xD I'll bet he grows up to be gorgeous~ And he's got such a cute face too~
Sneaky Heta, tricking you all. xD
And If we're going to share sneaky foaling mares stories, I've got a good one for you guys.
Almost all the horses we get at the school have unknown origins and most we know nothing about until we've been able to handle them for a few weeks after we've bought them.
A couple years ago, we (this was during my year-long break, btw, so I us 'we' loosely, haha) got a cute little bay mare who was really out of shape and had an odd belly. We kept her around for a bit, but because she was amazingly docile and obedient, we wanted to incorporate her into classes as soon as possible (it was summer and even with 40 school horses, we run short with the camp sessions going all day every day). We gave her her shots and checked for all the basic signs of sickness to make sure she wasn't going to spread anything, but otherwise, just sort of assumed she'd be fine and start looking better as she worked in the school.
Well, one day during camp, she was in a class and the instructor noticed two little hooves under her tail. She didn't show any signs of foaling, but the little guy wasn't waiting. He immediately stopped the lesson, removed her tack, and took her over to the secluded round pen before calling over the manager.
Luckily, everything went smoothly and both of them were fine.
We check our mares now though, haha. We don't breed and don't keep stallions so breeding won't be accidental. I think everyone just sort of forgot that it was possible for her to be pregnant. xD
I'm not sure what happened to the little dude, I think the barn owner took him over to another barn or a friend or something for training once he was weaned, but I never really got a solid answer about it. I've also heard he had to send him to a surrogate because she wasn't caring for him properly and he wasn't doing well. I hope it was the former as the latter's a bit sad.
We still have the mare, Sugar. She's one of our drill horses now.
There's a video of them
here if anyone wants to see. x] You get to see his first steps <3
(Also, it's not my video, neither of the girls in the beginning is me, haha. I think I know one of them, but it's been a couple years, so I'm not positive)
