a 50 gallon with a pair of senegal bichirs
a 220 gallon with a peacock bass and oscar
What do you guys think would be cool to add in with those guys? I'd like to have some sort of big catfish. (redtails are my favorite but I probably shouldn't go -that- big)

All of the catfish i can think of get as big or bigger than red tails(which are me fave too. sooo cute).
The only ones I can think of are Tiger Shovelnose,Walking catfish and Electric catfish.

Hmmm.... maybe a Fossil Cat?

Also, question for you guys; my sister has demanded that we include something to keep down on algae besides just our snails (since they're more interested in fish food anyways), and I was wanting to get a pleco. I've heard accounts of starving pleco's sucking the slime coat off of goldfish, but I figured that as long as I keep one well fed we shouldn't have a problem. Am I right in this assumption? I do love pleco's, I had a baby once when I was younger, but it died because I (unaware) kept it in too small of a tank.

Plecos are iffy and in my opinion are an absolute NO with goldfish. But if you are stuck on getting one I have seen people keep Bristlenose plecos and Rubber lip plecos with goldfish with no issues, they are more docile than other types. Just keep em fed and happy and you shouldn't have issues.

A walking cat would be perfect, but they are federally banned in the US. :c
Maybe i'll just get a giraffe cat or a niger cat or something

How many gallons is your tank? : 2.5
How many fish and what types are they? : One male Crowntailed Betta
How long has it been running? : About 3 months
Did you cycle it? : Yesh
If possible what are the ammonia nitrite and nitrate levels? : Nope, sorry
What is the issue or question? : Whenever I turn on Periwinkle's (fish's name) filter, the surface of the water gets all bubbly and foamy. I don't know why it does that

I got this gold fish started set (will provide some pictures) that comes with a tank, lid, gravel and a fake plant and I'm not sure how to use it or which fish I should keep in it (should I stick to goldfish or keep a different fish?) I'm not new to fish keeping it's just I haven't kept them in something like this before.
I was a toxic 11-13 year old lol.

Goldfish are massive and dirty critters and the smallest varieties need at least 20 gallons each going up to a pond for comets.
We have a picture of someone's not fully grown fancy goldfish in a 30 litre (8 gallon) tank to show how big they get Image
It doesn't look big enough for any fish or aquatic critter really, especially without at least a filter. Does it say how many gallons/litres it holds? Otherwise measure it and let us know.
It might be best to return it and get a proper tank at least 2.5 gallons (preferably at least 5, the bigger the tank the easier it is to look after) with a filter and a heater then put a betta in it.
There's more to fishkeeping than throwing a goldfish in a bowl c:

If it's the one we've found it works out at 8 litres/2 gallons which is too small for anything and can't be safely heated. A goldfish couldn't live in it for any length of time.
Put an aquatic plant in it, or maybe a few shrimp or a snail if you can get a (sponge) filter. No fish though. Tadpoles might work for something temporary.

Hey guys,

I'm getting ready to properly cycle a new tank for the first time. I've never actually done it with testing the water. What I usually do is put the new water and everything in, put some decorations/water from an existing running tank in, and let the tank run for a few weeks with nothing in it and without touching it. Then I put my fish in and hope for the best, and so far I've not really had problems.

I'm hoping to do a fishless cycle as I don't want to keep any fish that I would use to cycle with. However, when I looked up fishless cycles, it required purchasing stuff like pure ammonia, nitrites and nitrates testing, and it seems really complicated :| Do you guys have any easier methods for doing this? I do have an ammonia testing kit from API that I use regularly, just nothing else.
