I figured if the zombie apocalypse does happen ill find a nice man made pond to put my fish in. As sad as it is, I wouldnt be able to have fish, much less my pets, maybe excluding my dog. But water will be a valuable resource in that situation.

Or the sad but really cool option of zombie fish. D:

Our fancy goldfish floats at the top of the tank after every meal. He (im assuming, i dont really know what gender it is) struggles to swim to the bottom of the tank, only after he poops does he feel better. Then he starts swimming normal again. Im assuming it has something to do with his swim bladder so i give him peas every once in a while. But its getting ridiculous, everyday after he eats a few pellets he just starts floating at the top again... Does anyone know some way to get this under control? Or if its harmful to the fish?

You might need to change his diet entirely. I recommend Pro gold,Omega one and the saki hikari brand.

Also soak the food in a cup for less that a minute before giving it to them.

I need some advice.

I'm looking to buy a couple 5 gallon tanks (2 of them). I've looked and looked and can't find anything I like.

I just want something really simple, just a simple rectangle shape with no lights, filters, fancy stuff, etc.

Everything is so fancy and expensive.

Is there a place I'm missing?

I saw one at a store that might be what I'm looking for, but I'm not sure.

Also, is glass or plastic better if you have a heater? Does it matter?

Thanks for your help! This is making me kind of crazy. :?

I prefer glass over acrylic. Petco is have its dollar per gallon sale starting March 30th and ending April 13th I believe. So there is always that. :3

HmmmmMmmm someone recommend me some fish. i had to split the big tank up, so I'm gonna be stuck with
a 50 gallon with a pair of senegal bichirs
a 220 gallon with a peacock bass and oscar
What do you guys think would be cool to add in with those guys? I'd like to have some sort of big catfish. (redtails are my favorite but I probably shouldn't go -that- big)

The meds I'm giving him treats all fungus on fins/tail/body. It's not ick, doesn't look at all like ick. It's this cottony moldish stuff on his tail.

it might be fin rot, i heard poor water quality can cause that or if their fins were nipped. Did you try a water test?

Yeah, the water's fine according to the test.

Petco sells 5 gallon tanks- I've always wanted one for my mom's female betta (since she's in the smallest tank right now- 3 gallons). You will need a filter for any fish though, just so you know ;)

Glass is better, in my opinion, it's more durable than plastic.

Anyways, I thought I'd update you guys on our WIP goldfish tank (4 foot long)! It's taken ages, but it's now clearing up quite well. I'll be planting it with a few (not ready for all yet) plants tomorrow to start making it a more natural and fish-safe enviroment. There are some floating plants in it right now, but I plan to remove those and maybe get some duck weed. I don't honestly care if the goldfish nibble the plants, since I care more about the well being of the fish XD

My mom's really excited since now we'll have some room for her to get a goldfish, since she does like them (they're more friendly than the bettas). She wants to get a Black Moor.

Also, question for you guys; my sister has demanded that we include something to keep down on algae besides just our snails (since they're more interested in fish food anyways), and I was wanting to get a pleco. I've heard accounts of starving pleco's sucking the slime coat off of goldfish, but I figured that as long as I keep one well fed we shouldn't have a problem. Am I right in this assumption? I do love pleco's, I had a baby once when I was younger, but it died because I (unaware) kept it in too small of a tank.

They are very aggressive fish, so should not be housed with smaller or gentle-natured fish. They're a species of gourami, and tend to harass one another. They get bigger than guppies, and as they're territorial will need a bigger tank- at least 20 gallons. Males will fight for dominance, and will also attack and kill (and dine upon) other fish.

I for one prefer guppies, but that's because I prefer gentle communities ;)
