A quick random question, does anyone here have a 40 gallon breeder tank? (I think its called a breeder anyway) Not used for breeding that just what I've seen it called but anyway, me and my mother recently got a 40 gallon tank from the Petco 1 per gallon and were really excited to set it up so we ordered a hood for the tank (since the one on our other 40 won't fit it) and got it only to find the hood we got didn't fit. So we took it back and tried to find another hood but we can't find ANY that will fit this tank so I was wondering if anyone here has the same tank and if they have a hood and where they got it?

At this point we aren't even looking for a full hood anymore and have been looking into those glass lids (like this one) and will get a light to go over it later (we have a light that we can use temporarily until then so the fish wouldn't be without light)

Take the measurements of the length and width of the tank and search for lids based on those measurements. Not all 40 gallons are the same width and height.
If we had the dimensions, it would be easier. ^^

I just measured it (again) and it is exactly 36 1/4 inches long, 18 1/4 inches wide and 16 3/4 inches tall while the part where you put the hood/lid on is 34 1/2 inches long and 16 3/4 inches wide. We've measured it at least 5 times now and are getting the same measurements so I'm assuming its right, but I have done that (searched with those measurements) and still have found absolutely nothing; all the lids we get are ever so slightly to big by about just a quarter of an inch.
(Its an Aqueon tank I believe)

That is normal coloration. Comets are notorious for going thorugh color changes.

I bought one a long time ago that was 3 colored about 30% black, orange and white. Before I had owned him for a year, all the black disappointingly disappeared and he was bicolored.

He looks very healthy.

By the way, you are the first person I ever heard of weighing their pet tropical fish. There is no need for this and it would seem like it would be very stressful to the fish. He looks very healthy and happy.

Dakotak would be the one to ask about how much to feed, I don't own goldies but from my little knowledge of them, he looks like he's doing just fine.

Thats the most recent one (not his normal tank, it's a tank that i use for him when cleaning his.) This is when I weighed him, a few hours before
These few where around christmas, in his normal tank.

I agree with Equid, he looks good. I think he will be very handsome.

Be advised, he will quickly out grow a 20 gal. It would be fine for a fancy but single tails will need 55gal for the first and 15-20gal for everyone after that.
Just a friendly tip.

Young goldfish should be fed .5%-1% of their body weight in pellets per day. Or if you feed gel food,which have more water weight you can go higher with 2-3% of body weight a day.

Spread the amount through out the day, dont feed all at once.

A 30gal breeder, 40gal breeder, 50gal, and 65gal all have the same 36x18 inch foot print. =) Try looking for a 50gal hood. =)

Sooo, my zebra danio is really really fat but still swims around avidly and is mean to the other danios. Is something wrong with her? She looks like she going to explode but is acting as though she normally would.

Any opinions?
I'm more concerned that she's really fat rather than mean.

Hey there, did you consider she might be el pregnanto? I can't recall if Danios are live bearer or egg layer, but if she's gravid with eggs or fry, she will be large as well as a bit mean to other fish.

I'll do a bit of research tomorrow. I'm off for tonight. A photo would benefit us.
