Yes, that set up would work temporarily to house fry, but not for the 2 to 3 months they would need to become of age to sell.

You can house the entire hatch of fry in the tub up until the males start to show color. Once they do, you can add them to cups and add cups one at a time to the bin. As long as water circulates and they get lots of fresh water, they should be fine. It is tedious, however, to take off lids for multiple fish unless there's a hole to put food through.

Again, never in a million years would this work for a permanent placement/tank for each fish, but for temporary housing, yes, it would be fine for fry that have colored up and started fighting. The females, of course, can stay down in the tub itself.

I always used a 2.5 gallon tank for the spawning, and then a 10 gallon tank after the fry are about the size of a baby guppy, and then a 20 to grow up further in until they start to fight, which is when they go to their individual spaces or get sold, but that's just me.

I'm thinking of breeding betta in the distant future, obviously not petstore fare. For housing fry before selling would this set-up work: Large shallow bin (20-30gal), thats filled, with individual floating deli-type cups. Each cup has multiple small punctures (pin-type pricks) and lids with punctures. The bin has heater(s) and filter(s).

Would a set up like that work for fry?

Don't know if you can tell from the photo but this guy has smaller tanks inside a tank with water that's heated to keep all the fish the same temp

I don't know his well floating cups would go as I think they would sink with holes in the lid

Here is how it would work.

In the photo you provided, it's not clear, but it appears that each little betta cube has a slice in the bottom for waste to exit the containers and water to go in and out. You will notice that the water level of the main tank only goes up to reasonably close to the top of the cubes but not over the top. You will also notice there is space in between to slide in an opaque divider (Usually plastic sheeting) to prevent the males from seeing each other.

I'm sure you'll be able to contrive something within your betta fry's first 3 months which will work as the male bettas emerge. My solution was the 1 pint square jars from US plastics as shown here: http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.a ... &catid=574 I noticed they also have square pvc rods that would be amazing for keeping the jars off the bottom of the tank.

The lids are easy to cut a small feeding hole into but harder to cut a hole in the bottom or sides to let water in and out. I didn't own a power drill at the time, so I had to make due with just side by side and still doing regular water changes on each little jar.

(Before people go off about the pint tank size, remember it's temporary and the water from the main tank goes in and out of the smaller tanks.)

Prices range from $1.31 for a 20 ounce with lid to $1.71 for a gallon size with lid. You don't have to go with the 20 ounce obviously, it's up to you and your tank size. If you have a power drill, it will make it much easier to complete a similar set up to the one in your photo. If you buy 36 or more, you get a discount.

I hope this helps. I think the 1 cup plastic wedding glass style cups wouldn't work because they are top heavy, but any of the square flat sided options would likely work just fine.

I'm pretty sure he mentioned having to do daily water changes on each tank so I don't think they have the filtration system you are referring too
I think Toboelover uses something similar

So I got a text today from my sister whilst I was out saying that my other sister's fish was floating upside-down. At first, I suspected it was a swimbladder problem from stunted growth ( the poor thing's tank is way too small, and you can probably tell from the picture below, and I really want him to have a bigger one, but I just don't have the money for it and my parents just won't let me. Trust me, if I could, I would. I would buy a bigger one. ;n; ), but then I remembered that he has white spots on his tail and fins.

I picked up a treatment called gold disease safe from the pet shop, and when I got home, I did an around 40% water change, using bioactive tapsafe ( which my sister never uses ) and that treatment. I used one pipette of it as the dosage, as the bottle said to.

If it is white spot disease, what else can I do to help the poor guy?

In this picture you should be able to see a few white spots on his tail, but it's blurry because he wouldn't stop moving. I've seen him rubbing against the gravel a few times, and apparently this is another sign of white spot disease. His tank is unheated and there aren't enough places to plug in a heater if I could possibly buy one...

o.m.g. i got a fish tank for Christmas and my aunt bought me some white skirt tetras for the tank, and i got my self some neons. well, slowly my neons have disapearing, and i was like where are they going, and today i found a white skirt teta munching on the the last neon.......poor neons.

edit* I found a survivor! sense the tetras were fin nippers as well, my betta was moved to again so i put the lone tetra in with him.

Sorry to ask two questions in one day, but is there anything I can do about an aggressive bristlenose pleco?
He's very territorial and chases away any corys that go near him when there's food available. He doesn't mind shrimp, and in fact the shrimp hold their own and keep hold of their pellets when he tries to take them. I'm worried because two of the corys have small tears in their tails now. Do I just give him a different food so that he doesn't have to share with the corys? More space?

Even something like a 3G or 5G critter tote would be better than a bowl. But you can get a 10g and have a lot more fun withit.
