20 for a fantail, but I think most other fancies need 30... With double the filtration.
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe

20 is the very minimum for one fancy. Be warned they often outgrow a 20 though. 30 is much better. Double the size of the tank in filtration and 10x the size of the tank in GPH.

If you are limited in tank size I don't recommend goldfish.

Quick question building off of this,

No such thing as a "clean" goldfish!
Some people say the fantail is the smallest, but it really depends on breeding and care you give them. I have seen fantails reach 6inches and bigger easily.

OPE so i now have a pityfish

One of the elephant trunk feeders was this little white comet that apparently was born with no tail. He's pretty cute though so i guess i'll try sticking him in a 10 gallon for now and see how he does because why not

haha might be cool!
He is mostly just entirely missing his tailfin. Kind of has a nub that he wiggles like crazy when he swims.

Can fish suffer from depression?

By the way, my tank is set up, i didn't change the filter media, just rinsed it aout as it was fairly clean... after removing the decorations the bottom of the tank was filthy though. yuck. got some stuff in and the gravel in pantyhose. Would i still have to cycle if i didn't change the media?

i broke my favorite betta ornament and three live plants which ticks me off so much. i also spilled three buckets of clean water between myself and the floor.

I put some food in the tank to do the fishless cycle . Im thinking about getting more decorations tomarrow at the local petstore. I also found out my huge 10 pound bags of gravel (of which i have three) came in different sizes. now my 29/35 has "small" gravel not too small like some betta gravel is though, and my other tank has medium

Also, how long should i boil lake rocks if i would want to add them? Yhey are more than likely coal, and they are from Lake michigan.

Did you rinse it under tap water?
Also i wouldn't stick coal in your tank, especially if you dont know the specifics on it.

The filter? yes.

What do you mean by specifics?
