I know how to treat that on guppies, but how would I treat it in betas?

Melafix is always my go-to medsmy local aquatics shop always recconds it because its all natural & cant harm the fish, say, if you misdiagnose. Theyre one of the best aquatic shops in the country, & one of the owners is a marine biologist, so theyre pretty trust worthy.
How would you treat finrot in guppies?
Just is case any of mine ever do get it. And seeing as I plan to breed em all, they deffinatly need to be in perfect condition.

Dakotak wrote:[Salt and clean water is what I always suggest. You can also use fin rot medicine but I almost never use medicine to treat my fish so you would need to ask someone for that.

Yeah, I really need to find time to do more water changes...

Melafix should not be used on a betta over a long period of time or at full strenght, one has been created that can be safely use on a betta called bettafix

yeah, when my fish get sick i typically just throw in some aquarium salt and some stresscoat. that generally solves the problem, but, if it doesnt, i do treat them with specific meds.

I thought I would give a tank update. My very first. :b

I've nearly finished setting up my axolotl's tank. I found some smooth rocks in the back yard which I cleaned, they are going to be a main part of the shelter. My sister and I also found some local plants in a nearby pond which we sanitized/etc, which I'm excited about since we found some elodea in there as well. They're currently in a quarantine tank but should be ready by the time the axies come.
I've also got a couple of fish which I recently added to the tank to cycle it. Do you guys think two weeks will be a long enough cycling period?

Anyways, in a couple of weeks I'll post pictures of the baby axolotls. I'm getting pretty excited. ^^

Do fish go into "heat" like mammals? I just noticed that my variatus is getting really red around her vent area. and it happens to my red wag platy as well.

That and my underwater onion looks like it has a strange glob of blood on it. but it was like that when i got it.

EDIT: Fish are more than likely leaving this weekend (besides the pleco) which i'mhesitating to keep, but more than likely turning him over.

Then i start my plans.

and get LIVE plants as soon as i get paid. The only jobs i can do are City band, babysitting, and anything that wont get held against my mother's disability payments.

If and when i get the tank cleaned out can i add some of the water from my tropical tank to it to get more good bacteria in it?

@emo
Putting water from your other tank into that tank won't do anything but add the fish waste from that tank into the one you add it to. Water is not cycled, if it was you would crash your cycle every time you do a water chamge.
What you need to do is more water changes in the tank until it stabilizes to get the ammonia out.

Can you rephrase that in anyway? I'm confused as to what you are saying.

Are you saying when i cycle my tank that i needed ammonia?

If you do this you are putting the fish waste/poop (ammonia, nitrate and nitrite) into the tank. Not bacteria.

Water does not hold the bacteria you need, your filters and gravel do.

If you have fish in the tank do big water changes to get the ammonia out.

If you don't have fish in the tank you can let it be and see if it will go on with the cycle to make good bacteria.

You do need ammonia to have a cycle, but when you have too much that is when it causes issues, then the filter cant use it fast enough. (I believe the last part is how it works, if not some one correct me)

I hope that was better.

I have a Goldfish, who I believe is a flat eyed Telescope with possibly some Jikin/Peacock. Ever since we got her over a year ago her hills have been getting more and more curled. She is very healthy. Her sister doesn't seem to have this, or the Jikin tail. Is there something wrong with her? I read that there's a type of goldfish with Curled Gills. Here's a picture of her gills http://sta.sh/01rdbjrxotu4
"I try twice as hard and I'm half as liked, but here they come again to jack my style."
In real life I have 4 dogs, 3 cats, 2 rabbits, 26 rats, 2 gerbils, 2 cockroaches, 1 turtle, 1 axolotl, and 8 fish.
