What type of fin is he?

(Don't worry, they were not in the same tank when I took this photo. I had put Shou in the Dinosuar tank but decided he would be better in the tank he is in now. Then I put Ryuu in the tank shown [the Dino tank])

To be classed as an 'elephant ear' (personally, I hate that term, I much prefer to call them dumbos) the pectoral fins should be bigger than the bettas head, which it doesnt look like Shou's is from that picture. Though his pectoral fins are bigger than normal, so you could still call him a dumbo, I dont think he would actually be classed as one.

And sorry to rain on your parade, but I'm quite passionate about dumbos XD


*EDIT* Just noticed your other betta is called Ryuu, thats one of the names Im considering for my newest guinea pig XD Hehe, just thought Id throw that in there XD

His fins are bigger than his head when they are flared out, but that picture doesn't show it very good. But i think they are a but smaller than regulation. dont know if thats a deformity or not though. But I'm worried about his tail, unless its a Crowntail type like Ryuu, I think it's too ragged. Any suggestions on how to get his tail to look full?

I wouldnt think it'd be a deformity, just might be a little on the smaller side, which to be honest, seems to be quite common in most of the dumbos Ive seen. My dumbo has the biggest pectoral fins Ive seen, and he's the strongest swimmer Ive had aswell.
Deffinatly doesnt look like a crowntail, especially as all his fins, tail & pectorals are ragged. Its more than likely finrot, which, I cant get rid of on my own dumbo either, so Im sorry but I cant help you there.

Salt and clean water is what I always suggest. You can also use fin rot medicine but I almost never use medicine to treat my fish so you would need to ask someone for that.

Melafix is always my go-to medsmy local aquatics shop always recconds it because its all natural & cant harm the fish, say, if you misdiagnose. Theyre one of the best aquatic shops in the country, & one of the owners is a marine biologist, so theyre pretty trust worthy.

Just is case any of mine ever do get it. And seeing as I plan to breed em all, they deffinatly need to be in perfect condition.
