Trapping / hunting..your thoughts?

Postby Gà. » Sun Sep 09, 2012 7:57 pm

Please stay on topic, and no fighting too much. Debating is allowed, but stay calm and respecttful about it
What are your guys opinions for trapping? I trap, and I know others who do, but I wanted to hear your opinions. Please stay respectful.

Since so many people have mentioned hunting, this thread also contains your opinions on hunting. If I found I need to update the page with something about hunting only, I will :)

Mods
Basically they can temporary ban you from the thread (or permantly if I agree), give warnings, keep people on topic, keep discussions on a cool level, etc.

Foot traps
These traps are for just about every animal. The catch a animals foot and it quickly goes numb. The animal will be shot when its found.
Image A foot trap the size for a marten

Snares
This is basically a wire that is set up in a circle. The animal sticks its head through and when its shoulders come the snare tightens. After that the animal is choked, quickly going uncocious then dead. This all happens under 5 minutes typically.

Conibear
Ah, the one ALWAYS overlooked or never heard of yet the most humane. It is simply 2 jaws with a trip wire hanging in the middle. The animal sticks its head through or walks through and as the wire is pushed the jaws come down > Killing the animal instantly wether its snapping the back or the neck.
Image (when the 2 wires in the middle are pushed either side comes down \, not from the side, from top to bottom)

Bear trapping is illegal
Since this has come up, I'm gonna clarify.
Up until some 40 years ago, bear trapping was legal. Well, now its no longer, legal, and has been for some 40 or so years ago (I may be wrong, if you know for sure PM me) it has been ILLEGAL. So traps that are the size for a bear, are ILLEGAL. So don't say anything about trapping that involves bears, or cubs, because its no legal.

Poaching
Is different from trapping and/or hunting !! Poaching, is ILLEGAL ! Its like saying, "Well people can't have anything sharp or blunt or heavy because we might murder each other with it...", kinda stupid, right? Thats why when someone says "But what about the babies starving at their home!" it is reffered to as poaching, because it is illegal to shoot an animal with a calf / cub (moose / bear for example) and for animals you don't see its young, thats why their regulations when you can or can't hunt ! So please don't mention poaching and use that agaisn't hunting or trapping.

How do you feel trapping for a living? (like other people doing so)
People tyring to gte some extra money?
To control population, other, etc.

I do not mean to go off subject but what do you mean by trapping?
Like..trapping people in a cage? Or trapping their minds?

Um... well its slightly complicated. I don;t believe trapping is right, taking another animals life in vain, but I do realise why its important. Its how the food chain works. I get that. But I do hate it when a animal has been walking along, minding its own business when it steps in those foot trap things. THEY are wrong and I think they should be illegal. Things that kill them straight off is okay. I guess. They dont see it coming. But those foot trap things, it is putting the animal through extreme pain. It just cut its leg clean off. And it sits there in its blood for hours until it passes away. THATS bad. But I do feel sad when ever I see a fox sitting there all hunched over (I love foxes) to think that someone could see it and go BANG BANG. Some people dont realise that you just shot a animal, and there is its young sitting there, starving slowly and painfully to death. But yeah, I have mixed emotions, and I only believe in it if its right and doesn't hurt the animal.

Only if animals are being a nuisance. Doing damage to property or causing harm to other animals. And then only conibears should be used as they kill instantly. Around here as of late it has been Beaver and nutria causing a lot of damage to land

Trapping is fine only if you know how to keep it alive or you let it go well for a living I like to trap bugs with my sister and create a pet shelter or bugco or a think where you save animals that can't survive on its own I will become a vet once I get a job so at my age I'm studding the living if you ate a kid it's normal to vetch bugs and snakes once I was little I used to always cetch Gardner snake. But make sure you always let it back into its family
Please help the Mexican Gray Wolf. For those who don't know what they are, Mexican Gray Wolves are a subspecie of a gray wolf. There are about 75 in the wild today and around 300 kept in captivity. Here is a link to Wiki: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_wolf
Also if you want to write a note to the president about saving the wolves please follow this link: https://secure.defenders.org/site/Advoc ... on&id=2515 . There is this documentary on YouTube on how the first Mexican gray wolves came to Yellowstone National Park. Its very cute here is a link to that http://youtu.be/HnVkoc7ldrk also another one I watched http://youtu.be/LXbFwgv-igg Please help save the Mexican wolf!

I don't support trapping, for any reason. ((Unless it's a live trap, for obvious reasons.)) I find letting an animal suffer by stress, or pain, or emotional discomfort for days, weeks or even hours to be utterly inhumane. I do not support "leg/coni/snare" trapping, and nothing will change that.
