Me...I'm a bit sorry to say I hate hunting. I love wolves. They haven't done ANYTHING to us. And if you love dogs-thank the wolves. Wolves were domesticated around the Ice Age and became our furry, cuddly little friends. I swear I'd cry for a week and a half if 1 species a wolf went extinct. I have more to say,but it may offend the hunters,so I keep it to myself and my family who understands. I just don't get the point of hunting. I just don't get it. make fake fur,for goodness sake. I really feel very strong about this and could type 30 paragraphs.

By the way, I hoard pets. My biggest one is Operation Adorable. I put the pets I think that are just too stinkin' cute in there, and I'd like to get as many as possible. c:

Nothing irritates me more than this, especially because in many states that is actually considered poaching, and if it's not poaching *legally* the residents will still think it is and will shun you. The only time that's ever allowable is when it's population control and only for certain instances, like via aircraft or when smoking out rabbits. However I don't like that at all, so.

Wolfie, wolves have attacked and killed people and destroyed farms and property, and fake fur doesn't always cut it.

Really? In books and everything about wolves it says there has never been a record of a healthy wolf attacking a person in NA. I did hear a wolf pack attacked a zoo keeper in a zoo,but they could've mistakes her as prey,or she upset them in a way. But why people get killed by wolves,I know a way. They messed with them. Maybe, they went in the wolf's territory? Well, whatever they're doing, they're just being a wolf.

There have totally been attacks. Healthy wolves. Many of which aren't approached or harassed. If they're just being wolves when they attack us, then we're just being humans when we shoot them and are also blameless.

What about population control? And what about killing dangerous/destructive wolves that have shown little fear of humans and/or repeatedly prey on livestock? While of course I think people should do their part and not try to do anything to "befriend" or in any way embolden wild animals, especially large predators, and people need to use proper preventative measures to ensure that their livestock are properly protected in the first place, there are sometimes problem animals and if they cannot be deterred, it's best to get rid of them, especially if they pose a substantial threat to humans.

What's wrong with hunting wolves as long as it is done humanely and it does not harm the local population or ecosystem? What's wrong with hunting animals as long as it fits that criteria in general? Especially if they do what they can not to be wasteful and use the fur and meat rather than wasting it? Do you have any solid reasoning, or are your firm convictions based purely on sentiment? It's certainly not because they're more intelligent than other animals. Wild boar are very intelligent, but you don't see nearly as many people running around who fervently believe all wild boar hunting is cruel and it should be stopped. Wild boars are invasive and highly dangerous, but even when wolves present a similar problem, people still want to protect them. The main reason seems to be that they're simply not cute and cuddly and they don't look like doggies. People are less likely to post in their signature about how noble they think boars look and how they have a boar fursona and they abhor boar hunting. Instead, people love to talk about how tasty bacon is, even though domestic pigs are more intelligent than domestic dogs.

There's more important animals than wolves. How about the hundreds of savannah monitors imported and then sold to misinformed people that will slowly kill them over a few years? Much worse than a quick death by a bullet between the eyes.
What about the critically endangered animals with tiny populations in the hundreds? How are your wolves, who are over populated in some areas, more important?

I'm fine with hunting of any animal.. for sport, for food, as long as the animal gets a quick death. Poaching, on the other hand, isn't good.

Couldn't. Agree. More.

Seriously, EVERYONE is 'no don't kill the wolves' whereas theres animals dying (such as pink river dolphin) to the point they're survival is so unsure scientists simply say "They're gonna go extinct' . I know theres a breed where theres 3 live known specimens, and no one can do anything about it and simply say "They're gonna go extinct"

What I don't get, is why poaching is ALWAYS brought up with hunting! Good, smart hunters don't poach! Its the illegal ones! Its like saying that all guns should be taken away because theirs killing sprees, yet theres never any at gun ranges! Its not OUR fault that theres stupid people!

I couldn't agree more.
I also don't understand how people can be so hypocritical that they claim that hunting is wrong/equivalent to murder, yet eat meat without giving it a second  thought. Hunting is far better than the meat industry could ever be, whether people refuse to believe that or not, in more ways than one - it's a lot more fair to the animals [they at least have a chance to escape, and haven't been deprived of a healthy, obviously more enjoyable life in the wild], it's far more humane most of the time, you wouldn't have to support the meat industry if you actually did hunt, you don't only use the meat - you can also use the organs, fur, and bones… I could go on forever.
IMO, you're not really in any position to criticize hunters for the reason they hunt [like how I see many people say that it is wrong for people to hunt because they enjoy it], or the fact that they hunt at all, if you honestly eat meat simply because 'it tastes good'. Most humans can live a perfectly healthy life without meat, unless you have specific allergies, etc.
I personally try not to buy from the store and stick to meat that I get from my friend [they hunt deer, fish for salmon and butcher cows themselves], or buy from somewhere that I know treats their animals well, or at least treats them a bit better than average companies.

I love wolves and have for a while. I don't like hunting or killing animals, although I eat meat like cows and chicken, not pig or water creatures. I thought when I was younger killing is wrong no matter what. Now, I think don't kill it unless it's in pain that can't be fixed. This doesn't apply to humans though. Wildlife balances nature out itself, sometimes it weighs down due to outside activity like humans and weather, but it would balance back out if we stopped. If you just want to hunt and you have absolutely no food, hunt something like deer or duck. I would never do that but honestly, if you have absolutely no food and no money and there's actually a good reason to, go ahead. If you found an animal in the forest or whatever and it's hurt with a non-repairable wound (etc) then kill it only if you know for sure it can't be healed, then be my guest and put it out of its misery. It doesn't need to have a slow painful death.

Fake fur is doing a lot more harm, just on a much larger scale, and people just don't seem to realize that. Every single time faux fur is made it's releasing tons of pollution into our environment. Real fur on the other hand is eco-friendly. Fake fur also doesn't even compare to real fur, trust me. Those people living in colder climates really do need fur. If they wore fake fur boots for example, it won't take them too long to get frostbite. People rarely hunt just for the fur though. Usually hunting is done for meat (which is way more ethical than our everyday slaughterhouses) or for population control, which is VERY beneficial to both humans and animals.

NICKELBACKLUVR wrote:here are some methods ranchers could take:
There is an array of tools ranchers can use to protect their livestock. The following is a brief overview of some of those tools:

•range riders, who provide consistent, vigilant monitoring of livestock, with special attention to yearlings and newborns, especially during the hours around dawn and dusk when predators prefer to hunt
•increased on-site watchmen and guard dogs
•night penning of livestock
•the use of fladry, an old technique of using flags suspended from a top rope to the ground at precise intervals running parallel to a fence line surrounding livestock. This technique, when implemented correctly, deters would-be marauders.
•and the removal and disposal of food attractants, such as livestock carcasses and “boneyards,” an amassed collection of carcasses from livestock that have died over time. These carcasses, often in the proximity to live animals and feed, tempt carnivores to come feed on them, drawing them closer to living livestock. Sometimes visited at night by carnivores, “boneyards” are often located near active ranch areas, inadvertently drawing in carnivores to vulnerable calving areas

Any of these methods must be fully vetted by a professional to determine whether they are appropriate for a given situation. Minimizing attacks on livestock by any wild predators is possible, but requires rethinking some methods of managing sheep and cattle.

i found this info on this website: http://www.livingwithwolves.org/AW_question3.html

Ranch riders... What?? A person??
Some people can't afford watchmen, many do have guard dogs but when a wolf approaches it doesn't matter how often your dog barks > He was go deadly silent. My friend has lost dogs to wolves - all thats left is a collar.
Fladry doesn't make sense to me, sorry XD , maybe it works though
Never heard of a *responsible* rancher having a boneyard.

Only thing that I think would nearly always work is
Good, barbed wire fence.
Elextric fencing, not all can afford this though.
Locking up cattle at night.

Although these are NOT fool proof :/
