Oh, wow! Wow, wow wow wow! This just is NOT cool.

Looking at the Featured article of this month's issue of National Geographic, there's more than a few things that have ticked me off.

Wolves have been taken off the endangered list. And you know what? Two hours later, people decide there's too many. JUST GETTING OFF THE FREAKING ENDANGERED SPECIES LIST, AND GUESS WHAT? There's 'too many wolves'. So, promptly, they let people hunt them again. This means that man has pretty much decided the moment an animal species is taken off the endangered species list, there's too many and they've got to be hunted BACK TO THE ENDANGERED SPECIES LIST.
So now what? What does this mean? As far as I'm concerned, this means that humanity is blaming a predator for their own intrusion on wolf territory. Yeah, hell of an excuse (sorry, but that had to be said).

Ranchers and farmers, if you don't want wolves to eat your precious livestock, don't put them there in the first place. It's not the wolves' fault, they have instincts. We kill animals too, and we don't get shot.

Image
Two words: Uncalled for.

I'm not against hunting completely. My grampa hunts deer legally every season. I don't mind, because its part of population control. But hunting an animal right after being taken off the endangered species list because now, there's 'too many of them'? Outrageous.

Don't go yelling at Sarah Palin. It's not her fault. She may be killing wolves, but keep in mind, wolves were being killed before her.

Don't yell at me, either. I'm not supporting this. I don't care if 'wolves are bad, horrible animals that eat babies' because they're NOT. They've done what WE do. And WE'RE killing THEM for it.

Hunters protesting the management of wolf populations. These are the people who want wolves GONE.

I've had enough, okay? Enough. I've seen a LOT of crap in my life, and I have to say, this is mega-crap. So you know what? I wanna do something about it. I'm not entirely sure what at the moment. I need help with it. I'm just one girl. I figure CS has enough people willing to help me. The government has fed us crap for a long time. And it's time we change that.

I beg you, stir up some kind of protest where you live, 'cause this shouldn't happen.

Don't treat me like some stupid kid who has no idea what she's talking about. I have a VERY good idea as to what I'm talking about and I have a very good REASON to talk about it. I'm only 12, yeah, but that doesn't make me stupid. I know what's not right. I know what's not sensible. I have the rights to oppose what I know is wrong. And you know what? It's time I took those rights and used them.

Don't hate the wolves. They're misunderstood. They've done no wrong, and they should not be punished for it! Look before humans, and you'll see that species were just fine without 'population control'. We've got no one to blame but our own damn species.

This is not fair to the wolves. They have as much rights to be here as we do. I want to hear their howls when I wake up in Colorado, I want to see them in the forests.

The government is power. But power isn't the same as numbers. If there's enough people on my side, there's no way they can put us down.

I read that. I have renounced the human race for this....[see siggy]

If you want to help I suggest supporting organizations like Defenders of Wildlife. They work through the legal system to try and shut down the loopholes in federal laws that are being exploited by aerial wolf hunters in Alaska and have put forward money to pay ranchers for predation by wolves on livestock.

If you go to their website they also have letters you can sign and send forward to officials in those states.

Yes, this is terrible. It's not right to not let an animal live in it's own homeland, no matter how much livestock it kills. The American Jaguar was completely driven out of the US (it lives in Mexico now), now a few of the big cats are coming back, but they are extremely rare. We can't turn back time to save the jaguar, but we can prevent people from getting rid of other great predators.

Exactly. We're losing so many species to such pointless excuses.

I heard that someone swerved to actually run over two wolves in Yellowstone. O.O That person was a jerk.

There was a similar topic to this before, and there was a lot of argueing in regards whether wolves were the most important endangered animal to worry about, etc.

so before a similar arguement starts here, I am letting you know it's not ok to come to a topic about wolves and start bashing the topic because it's not about sharks, pandas, frogs, etc.

This is a topic about protecting wolves.

You can come here to discuss the protection (or lack thereof) of wolves.

Do not come in here starting an arguement about the relative benefits of protecting wolves over some other endangered species, if you feel so strongly about it then start your own topic. It is not at all helpful to the OP's topic of wolf protection to talk about species you feel are more deserving of help. Stay on-topic, keep your debates mature, and don't get involved in any silly flame wars

*agrees with Tess* Arguments are the worst. D:

And I agree with Feather, people only kill wolves because of superstiction(sp) and just being plain afraid of them. They think wolves are actually werewolves and they need to be destroyed. ;.-

I'm 99.9999% positive that's not their beliefs at all >_<

Its passed off under 'predator control' which is supposed to, well, control predators so that their prey populations flourish and grow. That way there's more elk for people to hunt. Because obviously the need for sport hunting is more important than ecology.

There are also cases of wolf predation on livestock and that's tough for the ranchers who survive on the profits of those animals to live. But removal of problem individuals known to be livestock-killers is much different then the mass killings that are going on.

Cinatsu: In europe a few people still believe that, but for the most part it's just something thrown into nature documentaries to make things more interesting.
